Salido: "Garcia was better"

After his crushing Saturday defeat at the hands of Mikey Garcia in eight rounds, Orlando Salido has admitted that his opponent was just better than him. Salido said on Fightnews.com, "It was a bad night, I was surprised in the first round and I couldn’t recover…I finally found my rhythm and distance and started connecting better and then came the headbutt that ended the fight. I feel that the best rounds for me had just come. I showed it the seventh round, but that’s boxing. I was well prepared and Garcia was better than me that night. I regret that headbutt. It was completely accidental, I went forward, I was attacking him and unfortunately we hit, but I reiterate that if the fight had continued I was going to dominate him in the last few rounds. I felt that his performance was going down and mine was going up.” Salido plans to move to the super-featherweight division and hopefully challenge Rocky Martinez in September. *

Re: Salido: "Garcia was better"

Kudos to Salido for simply admitting he was in with a younger, stronger, faster opponent that night. Garcia had offered him a rematch in the post-fight interview, but I'm glad that Salido isn't going to take him up on it, it wouldn't be competitive. There's still some top guys who Salido can challenge and test, Mikey Garcia isn't one of them.

Re: Salido: "Garcia was better"

When they started introducing Technical Decisions because of accidental injuries, there was a concern that the ruling could be abused i.e fighter well ahead on card can bail out, due to a cut, and win the fight.

Mikey Garcia was miles ahead on the scorecards - out of sight! It's true that Salido was coming on in the 7th and 8th, and starting to make the journey to the finish line uncomfortable, for Mikey.

I think the ruling is sensible but the accidental headbutt ended - what was shaping up for a good finish.

I like Mikey's calculated approach to the way he boxes - he's a thinking fighter similar to Lennox Lewis. He's constantly thinking about the moves he's doing and when to throw and when to move. A style that, sometimes, won't be pleasing on the eye but likely to bring him alot of success. He seems to possess a decent chin and has power along with ability.

Salido can still get another meaningful fight but he is very predictable, doesn't take a great shot and is past his prime.

They ruled it accidental. I beg to differ. Did not see the coming on in 7 and 8. I saw a man in the -minus rds getting shit kicked and looking for a way out.

What do you differ with? I said it was accidental!

Salido was miles behind in the 1st 6 rounds but he was getting closer and starting to get some shots home - watch the fight. I'm not suggesting, for one minute, that he was going to turn the fight around. But, to deny he was having better rounds is ludicrous. Garcia was getting uncomfortable in there and slowing down - hence being hit abit more often.
