Faulks
Promoter Frank Warren has confirmed what BoxingScene.com has been reporting for the last few weeks, the WBA has ordered junior welterweight champion Amir Khan to defend his title against interim-champion Marcos Maidana. Khan will have to make a big decision. He will either defend his title against one of the most dangerous punchers at the weight in Maidana, or vacate the title to take a fight with less danger but bigger dollar signs. Maidana will push to make this fight happen. He turned down a potential fight with WBC champion Devon Alexander to pursue a Khan clash. Golden Boy Promotions co-promotes Maidana with Universum. It will be interesting to see if they are able to back Maidana off but not likely. Khan's trainer Freddie Roach had recently told BoxingScene that Golden Boy had the inside track on signing Amir. The British superstar has been talking to American promoters about a possible deal to further his career in the United States. Maidana fought and stopped Victor Ortiz to pick up the interim-title but Dmitriy Salita was the mandatory contender in the WBA's rankings and he too was waiting for while to get a title shot. The WBA allowed Khan-Salita to move as long as the winner would fight Maidana in their very first defense.
Faulks
Come on Khan the only way can prove the doubters wrong is by taking on fights like this. Its a risk but fingers crossed you wont duck it. A fight i believe Khan can win IF he uses the tools at his disposal and does NOT just stand there and trade... The Hurricane
Definitely a winable fight for Khan. It would also be a good fight to increase his profile in the US as a result of Maidana's win over Ortiz. The fight would also clear up Khan's mandatory obligations and potentially pave the way for a unification fight (I'm possibly being a bit over optimistic there). WelshDevilRob
The more I think about this fight the more I want to see it and not only for Khan to face the man he should be facing next. Khan has the style to outbox the flat-footed Maidana and Maidana can be floored. The fight would be exciting, in a tense way, as your watching to see what happens when/if Maidana lands. Winnable fight for Amir but one he needs to take, if he doesn't take it then he'll just be viewed as avoiding a dangerous puncher. Good to see the WBA ordering this fight. gemmell100
maidana has a punchers chance but i think khan would school him and stop him in the mid rounds.
gemmell100
the wba are a disgrace making khan fight salita when they should have just mandated him to fight maidana.
mofo2
Khan beats Maidana...he has to much speed and his power increases by the fight, it pains me to say but the lad is looking like real quality and he will only get better continuing to work with Freddie and as he gets more comfortable in the division
