WelshDevilRob
CAPITAL boxer John Thain is hoping to make his professional debut in February after signing up with leading promoter and manager Frank Warren, writes BRIAN DONALD. Former Lochend Boxing Club amateur ace Thain, capped eight times for Scotland at lightweight and light-welterweight, said: "I am really thrilled to be joining a big promoter like Frank Warren and I look forward to making my paid debut in February. "I won nearly every amateur title I fought for so I felt that the time was ripe to go pro." Thain will continue to work with coach Terry McCormack in the paid ranks and McCormack said: "John and I met Frank Warren in London and we struck a deal. John was the Scottish senior 10st champion in 2007 and proved he is a superb boxer by holding his own with world-rated fighters in tough sparring sessions in Freddie Roach's Los Angeles gym recently. "And the fact that Frank Warren has signed him proves he has potential as Warren doesn't back losers.'' Meanwhile, Gilmerton's Scottish professional welterweight champion Gary Young says he turned down an offer to box English light-middleweight Mark Thomson on a bill promoted by Ricky Hatton in England on Friday, 15 January.
