Written By: Armando Paz In the beginning of 1983 it was the full intention of Benitez to make a run at Marvin Hagler. Hagler was a natural orthodox who fought southpaw and known for his excellent conditioning, impervious chin, and the infamous bald head. At the time, many felt Hagler was not tested yet. As he had not fought guys like Leonard, Hearns, or Duran yet. But it seemed wishful thinking for Benitez to win a 4th title as a middleweight, as winning 4 titles was never was done before. Alexis Arguello tried it a year before and lost a slugfest to Aaron Pryor for the junior welter title. In the days of less divisions, we saw greats as Henry Armstrong and Tony Canzoneri come a bit short. Although some felt that Armstrong deserved the win and not a draw against Ceferino Garcia for the middleweight title. If Tony Canzoneri would gotten a win instead of a draw against Bud Taylor for the Bantam title; it would have been the first of 4 titles.
