With his confidence returning, he could once again focus on his mission to become Mexico’s greatest ever fighter. This was never going to be an easy task, emerging into the Junior Feather weight scene was another Mexican who would make Barrera’s goal more arduous that he could have expected- the arrival of Eric Morales. Morales was undefeated in 35 bouts and had shot to prominence by easily handling Barrera’s conqueror Junior Jones in just 4 rounds. Barrera re-evaluated his boxing style after his defeat by Jr Jones. His offensive skills where always his greatest assets but defensively he had some work to do. If Barrera wanted success against Morales and the hard hitting Naseem Hamed, he had to learn to hit and not be hit. The post Jr Jones Barrera had defensive skills and patients, add that to his offensive assets, Barrera became one of the most complete fighters of the modern era.
