With data suggesting fights started at this weight back in the 1840s, middleweight boxing is one of the oldest divisions in the sport, going as far back as the bare-knuckle era. Tom Chandler and Dooney Harris contested the first “middleweight championship” fight in 1867, with Chandler taking the glory.
