The_budweiser
Quigg aiming to crack his Euro mission 6:00pm Wednesday 18th November 2009 By Marc Higginson » SCOTT Quigg will be propelled into the top 10 of the European rankings if he comes through the “biggest test of his career” next Friday. The Bury super-bantamweight is up against Ukrainian southpaw Yuri Voronin at Wigan Robin Park in a fight that could open the door to a title shot in 2010. The 21-year-old’s management team have been unsuccessful in getting him the British title shot he craves in time for this fight but Gareth Williams, the chief executive of Hatton Promotions, believes it is only a matter of time before his charge bursts on to the big time. “Scott is ready to be let off the leash now,” said Williams. “Every challenge we put to him he comes through with flying colours. “This latest fight is a massive step up, and is the biggest test of his life, but victory would lead to bigger and better things. “We tried to set up a British title fight but the board wouldn’t sanction it so we have gone down this route because, if Scott wins, he would be ranked in the top 10 in Europe.” Southpaw Voronin, aged 36, comes with an impressive track record of 27 victories from 38 fights, including 18 knockouts, and Quigg will have to be on the money again. Williams, however, expects the former Elton High pupil to shine once again — and keep the stock of his hometown rising. “I’m a Bury lad and I first heard about Scott through the local newspaper,” said Williams. “A lot of people are talking about him and we are of the view that he can go all the way. “Bury is experiencing something of a resurgence with the success of Elbow, Danny Boyle and the football team.” Tickets for the show are priced at £30, with the action starting at 7pm. Quigg supporters can get on a coach from the Help Me Thro’ at £10 per person.
