WelshDevilRob
Birmingham lightweight Frankie Gavin has his sights set on the British title in 2010 after continuing the impressive start to his professional career. Gavin, Britain's only world amateur champion, has cruised through his first four bouts as a pro, and promoter Frank Warren has a title shot planned. "That's what Frank's been saying, a title next year as long as I stay undefeated really," Gavin told BBC WM. "The end of next year might be when I get the title shot." Gavin, 24, will be part of the undercard when Amir Khan fights in Newcastle in December, then he plans to return home to Birmingham for another contest in February. And after the disappointment of withdrawing from the Beijing Olympics last year, he feels he is learning quickly, as illustrated by his two-round victory over Walsall's Steve Saville last month. "That's what I've been working on since I turned pro, more body shots, looking at landing big shots," he said. "I've been working on picking my shots, and when I think it's time I just go with a lot more now." Gavin also drew inspiration from David Haye's capture of the world heavyweight title in Nuremberg last weekend, seeing that win as an example for all young British fighters. "It just shows us that if he can do it why can't we?" he noted. "Obviously we've got to put a lot of hard work in, but we can definitely do it." Brick Top
I like Gavins personality, but I really think he's going to struggle at the top for power. He's been putting opponents away at the minute but he doesnt have the physique of someone who can bang. Still, that can be changed with a dedicated conditioning coach no doubt
