Video: Sprott attacks ref

...am I the only one who appreciates the fact a journeyman isn't taking a shitty decision and just accepting it?

How has he helped his cause by shoving a referee around the ring? Sprott is experienced enough to know better.

Sprott is experienced enough to know he's been shafted before (the Dimitrenko bout being a notable example), he wasn't just beating Gerber, he was dominating Gerber and he knows he got fucked. If more journeymen came to win and showed genuine annoyance when they were being screwed then the sport would be better for it.

I'm not saying pushing the referee is acceptable, just that it's nice to see an "opponent" show some fire in the belly.

I'm shocked than the likes of Cisse Salif (v Alexander Petkovic) or Danny Williams (v Charr or Airich) didn't do something similar as they were also screwed by referees who obviously looked like they knew where their suppers were coming from. In fact the referee for Williams v Charr (Juergen Langos) is someone I've made my feelings known on about in the past as a judge (he's put out some disgusting cards for fighters that he clearly has "connections" with)

I'm not excusing the fighter but we need these referees kicking out of the sport as they are doing more harm than good.

Interestingly it's the 3 time Sigl has refereed a Gerber fight inside a year.

Naughty boy!!! Punishing the ref for looking out for him is bang out of order. Well said 'super-hoops1967' - Luxembourg - here Sprott comes!!!!!

Hardly looking out for him, had his legs been wobbly by the 8 then that'd have been fine but Sprott looked fine, much, much better than a certain other fighter later on the same night. Had Sprott looked completely out of it then it'd have been job well done by the referee, but Sprott had dominated the bout upto that point and bust up Gerber before being dropped.

Yes, you are perfectly correct in what you are saying. My point was more general in that the Ref is there to look out for the fighter's well-being - and should not be attacked if the fighter doesn't agree with their decision, no matter how frustrated they feel. Sprott should not have reacted like that.

If Martinez was stopped whilst looking in the same "health" as Sprott EVERYONE would be having a hissy fit...

Bit of a difference between a world title, PPV main-event and an eight round preliminary bout, to be fair.

It was an unfair stoppage, so far as I could see, but if Sprott feels strongly about it he should pursue it through the proper channels. If any fighter attacks the referee or even another fighter after being stopped, I have no sympathy because they're clearly unable to control themselves, in which case they shouldn't be in a ring.

All fighters deserve to be treat equal and have the rules applied to them as if they were in the same position. It's unfair to enforce rules separately depending on the stature of a fighter.

Agree with the above comment Scott.

It doesn't matter about the signifigance of a fight, all that should happen is a bit of consistency with refereeing, regardless of the bout.

It was a lousy stoppage. I'm glad Sprott had clamed down enough by the end of it to try and make some steps towards amending the situation to make it less of an issue than it could have been, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place, though the referee clearly made a meal of his "tumble" as well.

I would have been angry in Sprott's boots too, but the ref taking a tumble either diffused the situation or made it into a bigger deal than a push would have been.

I'm not too sure which tbh.
