Video: Frank Warren evidence that Bhop, Froch turned down offers to fight Nathan Cleverly

Frank Warren shows evidence/proof on camera that Froch turned down a £1 million offer to fight Nathan Cleverly. The offer was made back in June. Bernard Hopkins turned down a fight with Nathan Cleverly. Shumenov's people rejected £300,000 to come to the Uk and weren't able to get a TV date in the states.

I don't think anyone doubted he'd made the offers, we just criticised the expectation that Froch should be grateful for the chance to fight Cleverly and that money should be the deciding factor in all things.

"Froch a legend? A fella who's been beaten twice? Do me a favour" - that is a perfect example of the Warren mentality. Nobody CARES that he's been beaten twice - the guy has shown a warrior spirit, has taken on the very best in his division, has gone about his career in a traditional way(actively seeking the British and commonwealth titles before taking on real world title fights and not some international trinket) and has now made a point of coming home to say thank you to his home fans by fighting in Nottingham, albeit against a disappointing opponent.

Shumenov is an appropriate opponents for Cleverly and should certainly be scrutinised for not taking the fight, but Hopkins was never going to come to the UK and Froch was never likely to leave super-middleweight to fight for a belt he doesn't care about in a weight division that offers him nothing.

With regards to Hopkins - he will go wherever the money is and if the offer was good enough then I can see him coming to Wales for a fight infront of a big crowd. I read that Hopkins is unlikely to fight this year, at all so maybe theres a reason behind that. It certainly won't be money. A Cleverly vs Hopkins fight doesn't make money in the US, so the only place for it to take place, is in Wales. Hopkins is not cheap.

Shumenov wouldn't come here and couldn't get a TV date over there. Still, sounds like a possibility for next year. Shows that Cleverly was willing to travel and fight a fellow champion.

Alot of Froch fans have used the argument that Froch already had a fight with Yusuf Mack lined-up. He beat Bute in May and was offered a Cleverly fight in June. Once it was apparent that a Bute rematch was not happening, then he could have turned to a Cleverly fight. Understandable, that he doesn't wish to move up and Warren states that they offered a catchweight fight. The important thing is that the intent was there from Cleverly's side to make the fight.

I can understand the negativity aimed at Warren though I believe he has shown that he has tried to get these fights done. Cleverly, gets alot of stick but if people don't get in the ring with him then there is little he can do.

True enough, but then again, I don't think he's likely to draw many big names to Wales(Calzaghe couldn't, so I doubt Cleverly can) and in which case it should be time to get on his bike and offer to fight wherever. Warren tends to book a venue and then offer people the chance to come over. As champion, cleverly ought to be able to defend where he likes, but then again he's not exactly a major figure in the division so he's not really able to dictate terms to anyone.

I really can't see Hopkins travelling even for big money - he must be loaded by now, and he can surely find someone else to fight in America?

Imo, it doesn't matter whether the offers were made.

There was never a realistic possibility of these bouts taking place at the terms offered.

Why does Froch need to step up a division to fight a guy noone is really bothered about, for £1m, when he can earn more in gate receipts alone fighting at a football stadium in Nottingham?

Why would Hopkins, who could probably command a fight with any opponent he wants in and around 175 lbs, opt to face someone unknown for a trinket?

Shumenov is the guy I think should be stepping up to the plate, but for whatever reason negotiations failed.

Negotiations fail because of a disagreement by both parties, rarely only because of one person...

Warren can make whatever offers he wants, he has a reputation of not always paying...and not paying on time

Are you referring to the money owed to him by Bellew?

Nope the money owed to Calzaghe where he put Sports Network in to administration like a cowboy builder. After that I'd question why anyone would believe him when he promises large sums.

According to the BBC that was over £1.8million...has Warren ever paid anyone anything like that since Calzaghe was with him?

I disagree on Froch.

He hasnt fought at the County Ground yet because he couldnt get enough bums on seats to cover the cost of putting on the show.

In that sense hes been very unlucky. He hasnt got a Calzaghe, Benn, Eubank, Naz etc. level of exposure that he should have by now.

I would be shocked if Froch had earnt a million for a fight. Those sorts of figures arent as widespread in boxing as people think they are.

I might not trust Hearn as far as I could throw him but hes not stupid. If they could cover the cost of fighting at the County Ground they would have by now.

All of his Super 6 fights, were big time US TV box office events, so I suspect he earned more than £1m for every fight.

And there was a 10,000 sellout for the Bute fight last time out, as well as TV deals in the UK, Canada and the US.

I'm not saying £1m paydays are commonplace, but he's firmly in that bracket now, despite the lack of exposure to the general public in his home country...

Were they?

I know they were on Showtime but PPV?

We're are discussing something that neither of us can back up to be fair, but just looking at it roughly I'd be shocked if he ever earnt a million for a single fight.

Don't forget that he left Mick Hennesey half way through the Super 6 because he was convinced others were earning more than him and he wasn't get the exposure he expected.

Pretty sure the early ones were on Primetime over here which is PPV, don't think they did great numbers though.
