Mexican legend Lupe Pintor, best known for his war with Puerto Rican great Wilfredo Gomez, says WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto should retire if he loses to Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Pintor doesn't even think Cotto should be involved in this fight. He felt Cotto took such a bad beating at the hands of Antonio Margarito last July, that he should have retired afterwards.

"After he fought with Margarito, he shouldn't have continued fighting. In that fight Cotto took too many punches. The kind that do a lot of damage. After that fight, he should have walked away," Pintor said to El Nuevo Dia.

He doesn't think Cotto will win the fight with Pacquiao. He says the Puerto Rican fighter should think about his health and walk away before it's too late.

"I don't think that he will win the fight with Pacquiao. He should retire to enjoy life, be well and stay healthy, and that's all that counts," Pintor said. "He earned enough money in his career. And now the most important thing is his health, more important than all of the money in the world."

"I've have seen people being stupid. They no longer belong in the ring and they continue to fight. It's dangerous. If I were a relative of Cotto, I would say to him - 'Let's go. This is over.'"

This in a way is a no lose for both fighters, PacMan is P4P No.1 while Cotto is seen as the best Welterweight (active). Losing to the other is hardly a great taint on their records.

Cotto, if he were too lose would be able to fight Berto for the WBC, rematch with Mosley and Margarito. The Margarito fight in particular is a big money fight due to the uncertainty over Margarito's victory last time or rather the revelations about hand wraps when he fought Mosley that casted a shadow over the Cotto win.

Manny, well if he loses its not exactly the end of the World - he would have fought a man naturally bigger who was too good. PacMan could still fight Floyd or Marquez 3 or someone like Timothy Bradley.

This fight is not a career ending fight for either.

totally agree. no matter the outcome of the fight i think both fighters will still have plenty of options available to them.
