"This is a big day for us, and I'm proud to have this wonderful young prospect fighting for us," said Free Agent Boxing president José A. Acevedo. "Boxing will never grow if we don't keep cultivating new talent, and in Jorge, we've signed a great fighter that you're going to be hearing a lot about in the months and years to come." The 23-year-old Melendez is the Interim WBO Latino and WBA Fedecaribe Light Middleweight Champion. In 2010, he stopped William Correa in the second round to claim the WBA Fedecaribe belt and in 2011 went the distance against tough veteran Eric Mitchell to claim the Interim WBO Latino belt.
