WelshDevilRob
Andre Ward vs Chad Dawson: Preview and Prediction Written by Aydin Guner http://cdn0.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/5297075/ward_vs_dawson_poster_large.jpg On September 8th, one of the most anticipated fights of the year will take place when super middleweight and ‘Super Six’ Champion Andre Ward (25-0) takes on light heavyweight Champion Chad Dawson (31-1), at the Oracle Arena, Oakland California. The last time we saw Andre Ward, was when he won the ‘Super-Six’ super middleweight Championship and put on a boxing clinic against Britain’s Carl Froch. The manner in which Ward won was no discredit to Froch. His dominance on the outside and the inside surprised a lot of boxing fans, of the fighter it was against. Froch had no answer to Wards silky, well timed and methodical boxing skills. Winning that fight established Andre Ward as one of boxings P4P greats. Think they drew 6K to MSG and likely half of those flew over to see Froch. Had they held in London all you'd see is Ward's family and team show up. The only class Ward has shown in the ring was against overmatched Miranda and Green. Against any rated fighter his game is the dirtiest in boxing by far, making Popkins look like a choirboy, and now he's taking another hometown fight well stocked with his refs and judges. I didn't bother to write about the fight on my site because it's gonna be another Ward bore/cum fraud. 2004 Gold Medal and still no big money fights in Vegas. Wow! WelshDevilRob
Interesting from Ross Thompsons facebook page I got Andre ward destroying chad Dawson 2nite Dawson had a bad camp after getting outboxed every day by my fighter lionell Thompson he finished his camp by getting stretched by his other spar partner Edison Miranda then he wants to get mad at lionell and not pay him for the work he owes lionell 8000 dollars but we will whup his ass in a real fight after ward tax that ass
iamasadlittleboy
...does anyone put any weight on what "happens" in sparring? Apparently Eubank Jr just bashed around DeGale in sparring too...and Golovkin was hitting harder than Povetkin...
fluffywhinger
Any advantage Dawson may have been percieved to have is null and void by the fight being at the super middle limit I guess ? I just can't see Dawson winning this and think it may be quite a wide margin on the cards , can't really see a stoppage either. Hope I'm totally wrong on paper this fights a barnstormer. bravo//
Ton
Was impressed with Ward. Dawson never looked like he could hurt him. Thought that Jim Watt on Sky's commentary were going a bit overboard though about him being P4P number 1 after the win and the fact Mayweather and Manny are getting old and are fairly inactive. WelshDevilRob
Apart from the 1st 2 rounds it was all Ward. I'm not sure if the weight was a major factor in Dawsons performance as he does tend to drift in fights and Ward kept on him - not allowing him to coast. Andre Ward was impressive and good to see him get a stoppage. He dominated a top level opponent once again.
iamasadlittleboy
IMO Dawson's punch resistance seemed to be effected by the drop in weight...but the actual performance by Ward was excellent.
robprosser
Well I got that completely wrong. The drop in weight seemed to diminish Dawson's punch resistance significantly and he wasn't exactly Marvin Hagler to start with. That said I was quite impressed with Ward. Watt's talking tripe though he's not close to Mayweather yet.
brooklynbrawler
When does Watt not talk tripe? I'm still not a fan of Ward's at all, even after this win. It's easy in hindsight to say it's not a great win, but Ward only has a recent win over an ancient Hopkins to show that he's something more than another HBO hype-job. I class Ward around the same bracket, though obviously his tactics and ability show that he is a world class fighter and can nullify many different styles. I can appreciate that he has ability, but I just don't think he's all that great at all, and in terms of pure boxing abaility, he's a mile away from Mayweather and Pacquiao...
