Meathead
Unless Martinez becomes an old man overnight, something I thought might have happened to him prior to the Barker fight, I really fear for Chavez. It's not that I think Martinez is the unstoppable force that he's made out to be, I often say that despite being a good boxer it's that same backhand shot that seems to do all the damage, but he's streets ahead of Chavez. Records are subjective, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who thought his record warranted his ridiculously inflated ranking.
WelshDevilRob
Chavez Jr vs Martinez Gets Personal On The Media Conference Call A conference call was held today ahead of the upcoming fight between Julio Cesar Chaver Jr and Sergio Martinez. The personal animosity between the two fighters was evident and promises to deliver fireworks when these two hit the ring on 15th September, live and exclusively on Primetime ch 498. Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez was the first of the fighters to speak to the press on the call and was full of confidence stating; "Regardless if he has the best preparation of his entire career, I will knock him out anyway." In the build up to this fight it has been apparent that Martinez is taking this fight more personally than he has other fights. "He doesn't deserve to be a world champion. His mouth is so big. He's talking too much, and that's what really made it personal." "He doesn't deserve to be a world champion. The only reason is because he is the son of the legend." "His mouth is so big. He's talking too much, and that's what really made it personal." However it isn't only Martinez who is taking this fight personally. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr was not slow to respond in kind as he stated; "Martinez has a big mouth. He's just a big clown." Chavez Jr was honest enough to admit on the call that he hadn't taken this fight previously as he hadn't felt ready for his opponent. However after what he claims has been a year and 2 opponents in preperation for this fight, he now feels ready to prove he belongs at the elite end of the division. "I feel very confident. I know how hard it has been working day after day to get to this point" "I'm going to have to be more of a boxer in this fight." "I don't train to lose, I train to win. The most important thing is to give everything you have of yourself in the ring." "I am the son of who I am. I can't change that. But I think that little by little I've proven myself" Read More: http://www.ringnews24.com/index.php/boxing-news/65055-chavez-jr-vs-martinez-gets-personal-on-the-media-conference-call.html#ixzz25ijG9jB3
