Emanuel Steward presents a special event “A Night of Sparring” at the legendary Kronk Gym

 

If the hallowed halls of the legendary Kronk Gym in Detroit, Michigan could speak, they would render stories of unparalleled ring wars between boxing legends and past world champions.

 

After serving the boxing industry for over 90 years, one of America’s treasures will finally be opening its doors to the general fight public.

 

On Saturday, August 25th, at 7:30 PM EST, Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward will grant every boxing fan around the world an all access pass to take a sneak peek between the ropes of the Kronk Gym canvas and bear witness to grueling battles of future champions!

It's not for me to tell Manny Steward how to train a fighter, butI've never understood why he takes such pride in having his fighters go hell-for-leather in sparring. Usain Bolt says he takes great care not to go full-pelt in training because of the strain it puts on his body, so what's the point in adding ring years to your fighters before they even get in with an opponent? Seasoning is one thing, but surely you're burning them out?

I can't understand it either, but at the end of the day it seems to work just so long as your fighter knows that it's sparring and it shouldn't be taken in to the ring for a fight.

 

Just ask Khan what going in to the ring for hard sparring without a head guard leaves you feeling like.
