WelshDevilRob
Edison Miranda Interview: "Bellew will know what it is like to be hit by a real man!" Written by Rob Day Big Hitting, Edison ‘Pantera’ Miranda descends on the UK, on the 8th September, to fight Liverpudlian, Tony ‘Bomber’ Bellew at the Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, London. ‘Pantera’ is a well-known, popular and controversial character who has traded blows with some of the best names in boxing including Andre Ward, Lucian Bute, Arthur Abraham and Kelly Pavlik. The 31 year old has often fallen short against the very best but does hold very good KO wins over the likes of Howard Eastman and Allan Green. Colombian, Miranda (35-7, 30 KOs) has had mixed results since stepping into the light heavyweight division back last year. His last fight was a points loss to respected contender Isaac Chilemba, over 10 rounds, in February. The fight was evenly poised until Miranda sustained a cut in the third – the nasty blood flow, seemingly affecting his vision and performance. Now, he is looking to get back in the mix and is fighting a man, in Tony Bellew, whose stock has risen since a gallant but unsuccessful points loss to, current WBO light heavyweight champion, Nathan Cleverly. ‘Bomber’ was last seen impressively stopping Danny MacIntosh in five rounds, in April. Bellew (17-1, 11 KOs) is the younger man, at 29, by two years while Miranda has over double the amount of contests: 42 to Bellews, 18. The experience and level of competition is, undoubtedly, with the Colombian fighter but the fresher fighter is the man hailing from Liverpool. Both men have plenty of power and the contest has the potential to be both exciting and explosive. The press conferences alone will be worth the fee, as both are confident talkers. I caught-up with Edison to get his thoughts on the upcoming fight. The_budweiser
If Miranda can beat Bellew it most likely will set up a fight with Cleverly and like wise for a Bellew rematch. (If Clev can keep hold of his belt in USA) Miranda has lost 4 of his last 7 fights and is on the decline, I can't see him beating Bellew. Bellew KO 8. WelshDevilRob
It was nice of Edison to answer my questions. I will be cheering him on as I've always been a fan.
brooklynbrawler
Cleverly flattered to deceive on Bellew's ability, because he's not a puncher by any stretch of the imagination. What Miranda says is somewhat true, and a couple of years ago, I would never have picked Bellew in a million years. Times have changed and there's not much to choose between them, which is more down to Miranda's decline than Bellew's improvement. Edison was never really a world class fighter, as he failed in his biggest bouts, but he could and should have more than enough to at least cause Bellew plenty problems, if not beat him.l
Meathead
Much like Rob I have always been a fan of Pantera. Sadly he's not achieved like he should have. I wrote this off as Bellew picking on a name but you know what, Miranda can still bang and Bellew doesn't take to well to being hit on the chin. He's lost to Cleverly, nearly got KOed by MCKenzie (although props to him for boxing in the 2nd fight) and for my money lost to Ajisafe (who also nearly KOed him). Truth be told he's just not that good. Better than Brit and possibly Euro level, but Mirandas experience and punch power could be enough to finish off any hope of him going any further. I'm still not really convinced that he is better than Euro level tbh. He struggled over a journeyman, in McKenzie; twice! ...after being knocked down several times along the way. A solid effort against Cleverly (who I still say flatters to deceive himself) doesn't make him world class. And Danny McIntosh....well, he got knocked out by Nathan, so it's unsurprising that a half decent puncher could manage the same. He may have been in the right place at the right time to pick up a European title, but again, hasn't proven to be too great himself. I'm not convinced that Bellew would beat the likes of; Gutknecht Garcia Campillo Murat White Chilemba Grachev Sillakh Never mind; Dawson Hopkins Cloud Pascal Kessler Shumenov Braehmer etc etc I simply don't rate the guy at all... WelshDevilRob
Edison Miranda: Put your kids to bed early Saturday Written by Anthony Leaver Columbian warns Liverpool man he will be KO’d in north London Edison Miranda touched down in London with a warning for Tony Bellew ahead of their clash on Saturday live on Sky Sports in Betfair’s ‘London Calling’ – telling the Liverpool man he will not be standing by the end of the fight. Bellew and Miranda in a mouth-watering bill-topper in north London, kicking off Sky Sports’ live boxing coverage with on a night that promises knockout action with four titles on the line. The two-time IBF World super middleweight title challenger is a step-up in class for Bellew, having shared the ring with stars like Andre Ward, Lucian Bute, Arthur Abraham and Kelly Pavlik, and the Columbian wants to make it clear that he is the star of Saturday’s show. “Put your kids to bed early on Saturday,” said Miranda. “I don't want them to be frightened by seeing what I do to Bellew. It is going to be ugly. “I have had an excellent camp. I moved to Las Vegas and trained for the past six weeks with Chad Dawson. We worked very well together and had some great sparring sessions. He is a great champion. I am ready for anyone now.” The 31 year old is known for having a fearful dig and with an incredible 30 of his 35 wins coming by way of stoppage, the Columbian is a huge threat to Bellew’s desire to move to the World stage – and the visitor questions whether Tony has the power to hurt him. “We are both known as powerful punchers?” said Miranda. “Maybe I need to watch more Tony Bellew fights. Who calls him a powerful puncher? His girlfriend? The reason the fight will not go the distance is because Edison Miranda is a powerful puncher. I am not putting this decision in the hands of the judges. You can save money and keep the judges at home. There will be two men standing at the end of this fight, Edison Miranda and the ref.” Miranda enters the fight on the back of a loss to Isaac Chilemba in Las Vegas in February but explains that his eagerness to stop the Malawian after an accidental headbutt caused a nasty cut over the left eye of Miranda which changed the complexion of the contest completely and led to a points win for Chilemba. “It made all the difference,” said Miranda. “I was up 3-1 on the cards before the headbutt. The blood was dripping in my eye and really effecting my fighting. At the time I wanted to knockout Chilemba so I kept fighting. Looking back on it I should have stopped fighting and went home with the win. However, I am a fighter and want to fight to the death. Hopefully, I am never in that position again. I am not a quitter.” Read More: http://www.ringnews24.com/index.php/boxing-news/64989-edison-miranda-put-your-kids-to-bed-early-saturday.html#ixzz25WTPdTlj
WelshDevilRob
Bellew: Miranda is in for a painful night Written by Anthony Leaver http://www.ringnews24boxingforum.com/download.php?id=643 Tony Bellew warned Edison Miranda he will pay for claiming he had never heard of him by hitting the canvas on Saturday night (September 8) as their clash headlines the Betfair ‘London Calling’ bill live on Sky Sports from Alexandra Palace, north London. Miranda mocked the British and Commonwealth light heavyweight champion before arriving in the UK by saying he hadn’t heard of the 29 year old. Bellew acknowledged that ‘Pantera’ a true danger-man with 30 KOs in his 35 wins, but ‘Bomber’ told today’s press conference that Miranda will return home in no doubt as to whom he is. “I am nobody to him,” said Bellew. “But on Saturday he will find out who I am and what I’m about and it is going to be painful how he is going to find out. “I chose Edison Miranda, Edison Miranda did not choose me. I am here because I wanted this fight. I believe in myself and it is nice to see Eddie Hearn does and Saturday night we are going to see. “It is exciting what he is saying but can he back that up. I have fought for World title, possibly not against as dangerous a boxer as Miranda but someone more accomplished. He brings danger and excitement to the table and I do to, so it sounds a good mix.” Miranda is a 5-1 shot with Betfair to carry out his threat to KO Bellew and then hunt down a fight with three-time World super middleweight king Carl Froch, but the Liverpool man – 5-6 to end the fight inside the distance – is happy for Miranda to look to the future. “He is looking past me already but I am not looking past Miranda,” said Bellew. “He is a dangerous fighter but this is about me not about him. He can go on about Carl Froch all he wants but I am not listening all I am thinking is he has to get in with me. I pose different threats so we will see, come Saturday we find out what it is about. “The last thing a fighter of Edison Miranda’s calibre loses is his punch; he will always be blessed with that punch. He has lost seven times so there is a blueprint to beat him, I have seen that. I have seen him beaten, seen him stopped and seen him beaten up. There is no blueprint to beat me so he has to find one. He will get a shock. “With 10 ounce gloves everybody is a puncher so we will see. I remember somebody saying before, Danny McIntosh said I am not a puncher and that is the last time somebody said that to me.” Read More: http://www.ringnews24.com/index.php/boxing-news/65057-bellew-miranda-is-in-for-a-painful-night.html#ixzz25iiGc4Z2
