Not only were the women competing for the first time in the history of the Games but it would also see the continued rise of amateur boxing in the country, surpassing even their Cuban and American counterparts. It was an historical occasion that has been a long time coming with history seeing that of the Amateur Boxing Association dating back over 130 years.
