WelshDevilRob
Froch to announce IBF defence on Monday The Cobra to reveal November opponent live on Sky Sports News Carl Froch will announce the opponent for his first IBF World super middleweight title defence live on Sky Sports News on Monday (August 20). The three time World champion will box in November in the first defence of the title he won in stunning fashion with a fifth round KO of Lucian Bute at the Capital FM Arena in front of a fanatical hometown support in Nottingham on May 26. The 35 year-old will defend his belt in his hometown again this November and should he be successful he will travel to Montreal next spring to face Bute in a rematch. “The Bute fight night will go down in history as one of the greatest nights in British boxing history,” said Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “Carl is chomping at the bit to get back into the ring and feel the roar of the Nottingham fans that he loves so much.” Tickets will go on sale at 2pm on Monday. brooklynbrawler
Nicholson Poulard (Pascal's brother who is a career light-heavy), has just announced he's been offered the contract.... So much for the "major announcement" today. A VERY underwhelming opponent imo.
iamasadlittleboy
Poulard has been rumored for a few days now, shame really but Froch does perhaps deserve a gimme...
irondave85
Surely nobody could begrudge Froch an easy-ish opponent, for goodness sake? Christ, some champions make a habit out of it. If anyone deserves it, Froch does. Have a keep busy fight, then go for another major bout.
Skav
Poulard has been rumored for a few days now, shame really but Froch does perhaps deserve a gimme... Not somebody who isn't even ranked in the sm division.
Joe Ko
Annoucement pushed back to The Matchroom media day, hoping they changed there mind on Pascal's brother and are trying to work out a deal with a bigger name. Degale, Pavlik or Kessler would be great.
brooklynbrawler
Sounds like the idea of Poulard was given a pretty lukewarm reception thankfully... Rumoured to be Pavlik again. TBH, I don't like "gimmes" for any fighter, not least a world champion who has few fights left in him... Not saying Froch doesn't deserve something of a break, given the fantastic list of recent opponents he has rustled up, but why should he take a break and look for "some guy" to steamroller? He's struggled to get recognition over the years, in fighting elite opponents, so what would stepping back do for him? Absolutely nothing. Would be very happy with a Pavlik bout. Not too interested in going to or watching a Poulard bout in equal measure.

gavpowell
I agree - an easier fight is fair play and Pavlik is certainly that, but otherwise, if you want to be a world champion, fight other world class fighters or give back the belt and be honest about it. irondave85
Let's be realistic here for a second, every champion throughout history has had soft title defences. Yes, every single one. You name 'em, they've had soft title defences. It's par for the course. Few, however, have run the gaunlet of fighters that Froch has had and as soon as it appears that he, might, just might, not be facing his umpeenth elite level fighter (although nothing's confirmed yet), some on here are up in arms. Christ almighty. It's a keep busy fight. It'll keep him ticking over, whilst earning himself a payday. And then in the New Year, the major names will be targeted again. At this point, I think we can safely say that Froch is not one for taking the easy option, so untangle the knickers and relax. Thank the Lord there wasn't forums back in the 70's. Internet would have blown up with Ali's announcement that he was fighting Richard f*cking Dunn...

brooklynbrawler
My problem isn't so much about a single bad bout....it's that Froch is already tied into a Bute rematch and we pretty much know the outcome of that one already. By the time they come around, he's going to be inches from retirement. I would compare him to Calzaghe in that he wasted a couple of bouts on Manfredo and Jones Jr, and gets constantly slated for it on here and elsewhere. Froch has no need for a walkover fight at this stage, given the people he's beaten and the people he "could" beat. There's no time or need for a walkover bout, it's as simple as that... WelshDevilRob
Froch to defend IBF belt against Yusaf Mack American World title challenger heading to Nottingham on November 17 Carl Froch will defend his IBF World super middleweight title against IBF number six Yusaf Mack at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham on November 17, live on Sky Sports. Froch became a three-time World Champion with a stunning fifth round KO of Lucian Bute to claim the belt at the same venue in May and returns to fight Mack, the Philadelphian World title challenger who will enter the lion’s den aiming to cause an upset. ‘Mack Attack’ challenged Tavoris Cloud for the IBF light heavyweight title last June and recorded an impressive win over Omar Sheika in April, dominating the man who challenged Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacy in World title bouts to take the USBA light heavyweight title with a wide points decision. It’s the first time Froch has fought back-to-back fights at his hometown fortress since 2008 and The Cobra is ready to put on a show for his loyal faithful. “I can’t wait to get back into that ring in Nottingham and give the fans another great night,” said Froch. “The Bute win will go down as one of the greatest nights of my life and I plan on doing something special against Mack on November 17. He’s got nothing to lose coming here to face me and I know he’ll put it all on the line to take the title from me so I’ll be fully prepared for everything he’s got and I’ll be hitting him with all my best.” “I’m delighted to have to have secured a home defence for Carl, no-one deserves if more,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “He will be full focused on the fight with Mack, a much bigger man who will be coming to rip that World title from his grasp. I can’t wait to be there on the night with the British fans sure to create another electric atmosphere in the Capital FM Arena.” Tickets go on sale at 3pm today (August 28) £40, £60, £80, £120 and £200 from the Capital FM Arena Box Office on 08444 124624 and at http://www.capitalfmarena.com VIP packages are available exclusively from Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900 and at http://www.matchroomboxing.com Read More: http://www.ringnews24.com/index.php/boxing-news/64142-froch-to-defend-ibf-belt-against-yusaf-mack.html#ixzz24rJrThpi
gavpowell
Mack is such a soft defence I have to ask how the IBF could even sanction it. Disappointing, but hopefully we'll be back on track soon enough.
Meathead
Honestly, a gimme in front of his home fans is fine by me. He's done it the hard way, often away from home. I am more outraged by the fact that he has to face Bute. That is truly shocking. Bute didn't just lose, he go battered.
gavpowell
They signed a contract agreeing to two fights - Bute didn't need to risk his belt coming over here to fight a guy who'd lost his last fight, so Froch is doing the decent thing and also abiding by the terms of his contract.
