Abril vs Bogere & Gamboa vs Rees!

Word is lightweight Richard Abril (17-3-1, 8 KOs) could return on October 13 to defend his WBA crown against unbeaten Sharif Bogere (23-0, 15 KOs) in Las Vegas. It would be April’s first fight since losing a controversial split decision against former champion Brandon Rios in April. The WBA officially announced that Abril would be allowed to keep his interim title, despite the loss to Rios, who didn’t make weight for the fight. Abril was later elevated to WBA regular champion. Previously it was thought that Abril would be defending against Gavin Rees, who is now being mentioned as a possible opponent for former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Thought it was an absolute travesty that Rios was given the decision in that fight.

I've seen few worse decisions in all my time watching boxing.

It's good that the WBA have recognised this, but they should be going further and overturning blatantly bad decisions like that one imo.

Abril vs Bogere then - thoughts?

I've seen Bogere fight a few times and he's a solid all-rounder, who I would have picked to beat Abril handily until the Rios fight.

Now it's a bit of a pick'em...I just hope he's not on the wrong end of a sh*tty decision to a TV favourite for the second fight in a row.

More intriguingly, REES vs GAMBOA!?!

Can't see Rees winning in a million years, but hopefully he manages to make it competitive at least, and it will be Gamboa's highest venture up in weight yet also, so it makes it less than a certainty that he will win.

(Maybe a 99% chance now... mlol/ )

Stranger things have happened though and it would be good if the TV networks in the Uk pick this one up if it goes ahead...
