The_budweiser
Thinking of Skavs ' Worst boxing match you have seen? Has there been a known fight or any fight were both boxers fees were withheld? Thinking more of lack of fighting and not DQ.

Skav
George Foreman had to be repeatedly warned by the ref for not wanting to fight in one of his comeback fights in the 80's. I think Foreman said so himself. It was because he took up religion but didn't have his purse taken because of it. Henry Akinwande's purse was withheld after fighting Lennox Lewis back in 1997. There was speculation that Audley Harrison's purse may be withheld after his loss to Haye but it wasn't.

This is were Dallen would come into play with his knowledge.
hhascup
Trenton, NJ Jan. 23, 1920 - Porky Dan Flynn and Al Reich on December 25, 1919, The New Jersey State Commission concluded that Reich and Flynn had pulled off a sham bout. Flynn was barred from fighting in New Jersey for one year, Reich, six months. Their purses were withheld and the money to be divided among the day nurseries in Trenton. Harry Wills and Jack Thompson on January 1, 1920. After their loudly booed perfrormance, both fighters purses were withheld by the promoters. Willie Dundee and Jakie Cohen on December 10, 1924. Their purses were withheld and both were suspended for three months. Eddie O'Dowd and Pinky May on May 19, 1927. Referee Fred Andretta ruled they were "not trying." Their purses were withheld, and the American Legion matchmaker requested the state boxing commission suspend both for at least one year. Tiger Jack Fox and Clarence Brown on December 1, 1939. The referee stopped the bout, ruling that both fighters were not trying. Both of their purses were withheld. The Chicago Tribune described the bout as a "wrestling match." Fox and Brown substituted for Lem Franklin and Bob Nestell, after Nestell became ill the night before. Only 941 persons attended. Bob Soderman was on hand and later wrote: "..Fox was anything but the master fistic mechanic he had been on September 1, when he had handed this same Clarence Brown an artistic and thorough shellacking. Instead, Tiger Jack acted like he was in a trance, and Clarence Brown behaved as if hew atill under the hypnotic spell that Tiger Jack had weaved over him when they last met. Their exhibition was appalling.." Perhaps the small pay that would have received had something to do with their lethargy.

hhascup
Here's a few more. Maxie Rosenbloom and James J. Braddock on November 10, 1931. Braddock and Rosenbloom were accused of a pre-arranged deal -- the MN Commission allowed each $350 in training expenses, the balance of their purses was donated to charity. Dennis Chadwick and Jimmy Jury on February 13, 1947. "After three warnings by the referee, who gave them every chance to make a fight of it, both men were sent from the ring in the fourth round for not trying. It was announced that the men's purses would be sent to the British Boxing Board of Control."

If both were found guilty, why not the same punishment? Day nurseries? what is that? might be as simple as I'm thinking or mean something else back in those days. hhascup
Porky Dan Flynn was the one that took the dive so they gave him a longer penalty. It was 4 weeks after the bout that they gave the penalty out, in between Reich fought another 4 times, 3 in the state of New Jersey, But never fought there again after the penalty came down. Flynn took his penalty and after a year, he fought in Newark, New Jersey 3 times in 1921.
Meathead
Audley Harrison had his purse withdrawn for the Haye fight. He got paid eventually but it was kept for a few weeks I believe. That was due to his joke of a performance.
hhascup
Yes he did get paid, But the question is when did both fighters purse get withheld.
