Floyd's been released. So What now?

Boxing's Premier fighter is now free from his short stint from a Nevada State prison.

Will he fight this year and if so who do you think it will be against?

Sweet fuck all! He'll enjoy his celebrity lifestyle and maybe fight someone when his bank balance gets to a certain low. The welterweight division is lacking a clear number 2, light middleweight is lacking an out and out number 1, and light welter has just lost its leading star.

The article I read said that he accepted a plea bargain to avoid a potential 34 year sentence.

Regardless of what he did or didn't do that seems a bit steep!

If this is true he has the worlds greatest barrister!! How the fuck can you agree a plea deal to serve a few months instead of what equates to a life sentence!!!

It is true, but he was facing something like 10 different charges, some of which were felony offences, so if he'd been tried and found guilty on all counts, the maximum sentence could have been 34 years. It's a very bizarre system they have over there.

I'll give you odds of 1/10 he'll be back inside in the next 5 years. Do we really think this p**** has been "reformed" and he doesn't think he's some kind of gangster above the law?

He probably will be but thats his choice and I couldn't care less what happens to him. Just hope to see him fight a few more times whil ethe skills are still there.

Ton, he's a grade A prick by all accounts outside of the ring, I agree.

I don't care about any of that though.

If I wanted to watch social drama I'd watch Jeremy Kyle! As a boxing fan I love watching what he does inside of the ring... which imo, is pure genius.

Don't get me wrong lads, he's a great boxer for sure. But who is there for him to fight where it will genuinely be worth him being bothered? Tim Bradley maybe, but that doesn't get me very excited tbh.

Absolutely agree, he's still the best fighter in the world IMO, but there's simply nothing out there that excites me and that INCLUDES a fight with Pacquiao (it's past it's expiration date IMO). I'm sure he'll fight again, and I'm sure I'll watch it when it's on, but simply put, there's other more interesting topics for us to discuss.

Martinez.

I should have added "realistic" to the criteria. Martinez is a high risk, low reward opponent, and the interest in it outside of the boxing fraternity will be limited. This then could be also be filed under the "why would he bother" category, since there would not be a great deal of money involved.

I think the Pacquiao fight has long gone. They couldn't agree on terms in the first place, and now since Floyd has the upper hand in negotiations and purse split following Manny's loss, it'll never come off.

If, and it's a massive if, Kell Brook got a shift on, and got himself a few good fights over in the USA, won them and got a world title, he may just generate enough interest and money for a fight vs Floyd. But it'd have to be a swift effort, they seem miles apart at the moment, and Kell hasn't exactly been in much of a rush so far in his career.

You think Martinez wouldn't generate enough interest but that Tim Bradley and Kell Brook might? I''m not sure Bradley watches his own fights, let alone anybody else, and Brook is even less credible than Khan for a crack at Mayweather.

I think Mayweather has in recent years started to show genuine concern for his legacy, which explains the sudden trend towards rather decent opposition - Ortiz, Cotto, supposedly Alvarez(not that I think Alvarez is particularly special). I think Martinez is a plausible option, but we'll see next year.

To be fair to Ortiz he was flavour of the month after beating Berto.

Now I didnt rate Berto, I think me and Ortiz were the only ones who saw Ortiz winning that fight, but Berto was supposedly being groomed for a Mayweather shot.

I actually agree with Gav that Mayweather has become concerned about his legacy.

He most likely wont fight Pacquiao, for a number of reasons on both sides of the fence, but since that fights been talked about Mayweather has had to answer the same legacy question time and time again. Whenever he starts acting pissing in interviews 9 times out of 10 its because hes been asked about it. It even led to him making some stupid comments about being better than SRR at one stage.

For the first time in as long as I can remember I honestly dont know what hell do next. Martinez and Alvarez are high risk, extremely low reward (on Mayweather terms anyway) so I doubt theyll happen.

He might try and fight Bradley purely so that after he wins he can start saying he is better than Pacquiao again, despite everyone and their dog knowing Pacquiao won.

Outside that I really dont know. Cotto rematch maybe? I know Cotto has mentioned it and it was a great fight.

...Ortiz?...WTF does beating a wild heartless slugger like Ortiz do for his creditability?

Ortiz was a young, hungry fighter and a damn sight better than something like Mosley. I don't see him as heartless just because he gave in against Maidana and then later decided not to fight on with a jaw smashed to pieces. The theory was, Mayweather was at Berto-Ortiz to arrange a fight with the winner. The fact Ortiz won is not Mayweather's problem, even if it wasn't an amazing choice.
