The_budweiser
Fight Preview: Robert Guerrero vs Selcuk Aydin Written by Jon Campbell The interim WBC Welterweight title is on the line on Showtime when Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero (29-1-1) aims for his 30th win against the young Turkish prospect Selcuk Aydin (23-0). Some tense words have been exchanged between the two in the build-up to this fight so expect fireworks in the ring when they both come to claim the crown. Unfortunately for fight fans, Robert Guerrero has not been able to be as active as we would like him to be, and as a result has ceased to be billed as the next best thing. Although very few of us will have forgotten him, he is not now the draw he was a couple years back, and this of through no fault of his own. Despite this, he is coming off three impressive wins against Katsidis, Casamayor and Escobedo. A win here will give him a world title in the third weight-class, as he has already won the IBF crown at both Featherweight and Super-Featherweight. The slight decline in notability should not take away from his skills, also the fact that he has not been beat since 2005. davemurphy
I stand by my feeling that Guerrero is no Welterweight. I love his story and I'll always root for him, but fighting two divisions above where he should be simply to lure in one of the major stars isn't going to work. Katsidis was an infinitely better fighter than Aydin is now and likely just as strong, so I give Guerrero a good chance if he's done his proper training homework on how to jump two divisions. Manny did it to Oscar and proved the naysayers wrong, and of course the rest is history.
