The_budweiser
Tyson Fury ready to Conquer America Written by Richard Allan McRae In my life time and for years before that, has the boxing world every seen the heavyweight division been so boring and with a vanilla taste. Then on December 6th of 2008, a 6’ 9” giant of a man from Wilmslow, Cheshire, United Kingdom entered the ring for his professional boxing debut against veteran Bela Gyongyosi for a 6 round bout, usually young boxers take a short 4 round bout against someone who is either making their pro debut or only have a couple of bouts under their belt. Gyongyosi had 14 pro bouts that day, mostly losses but he was a veteran. At 2:14 of the 1st the 21 year old giant was declared the winner by TKO. And that was how Tyson Fury started his professional boxing career, it should be noted that Bela Gyongyosi never stepped in the ring since that bout. poztin
It's a sorry state of affairs when the likes of Tyson Fury is anywhere near a world heavyweight title.
WelshDevilRob
I see hes calling out David Haye now aswell. Not sure Adamek would fight him but you never know.
Ton
Astonishing! "From Wilmslow Cheshire", makes him sound posh! This is a very affluent area, where many of the footballers playing for Northwest Premiership teams live in there mansions. It should be said that he and his crew will live on abandoned bit of land in their caravans to tell the true story! mlol/
Ton
And what's a "tuff slugger" by the way? That term appeared in there near the start! search//
Joe Ko
He is calling out Haye and Adamek but the fight will never happen in a million years.
brooklynbrawler
I wouldn't be surprised by an Adamek bout, but I can't see a Haye fight coming off in a million years unless Fury somehow miraculously finds himself in possession of a world title (and there's veen less chance of that). Sheils
Fury isn't all that bad. His range of punches, especially his body shots, are decent. He ducked Price though, and in 9 out of 10 fights Haye would stop him in the early rounds.

Only Brits stuck in the last millennium pine for the Price fight which was squashed by sagging business problems plaguing British boxing. Wiping out Big Mac and Chisora is plenty enough domestic action for the manchild who is bigger than Mr. Pinky or British boxing at this point. Let Mr. Pinky fight Price, but we know that ain't gonna happen. I like Fury/Vitali early next year if VK continues as a very competitive fight. gavpowell
No, most British fans want the Fury-Price fight, just as we wanted the Haye-Maccarinelli fight and the Hatton-Witter fight, because they were interesting match-ups and good solid rivalries. Fury is far better than he gets credit for, but he's still going to have to rely on Vitali being past it before that fight is competitive.

Just a shame that he's not being tested.
Meathead
This is a bit like me saying I am going to conquer the Isle of Man. I just dont get it with Tyson Fury. Perhaps I am missing something. He has life and death fights with people that he should be breezing through, ducks a proper challenge in Price, and only holds one real win of note over the worst version of Dereck Chisora that has ever set foot in a ring, and likely ever will. I wish him the best of luck, I really do. I want him to be a success because its great that this little island can produce world champions, whoever they are, but hes barely a Euro level fighter, let alont one whose gonna win a world title. gavpowell
The only life and death fight I can recall him having was with McDermott, and at the time he was like an 8 fight novice, about 4 stone overweight and still won. Meanwhile you congratulate Price on choosing Harrison. Are you sure you weren't bitten by Tyson Fury a a child?
poztin
Another slow lumbering oaf to add to the rest of the slow lumbering heavyweight pack. You would never see the likes of Ali, Louis, Tyson, Holmes, Lewis do this... I'm sorry, I just can't take to any boxer/athlete who trains hours a day, for weeks on end, and still has fat on them. Smacks of someone who doesn't take the sport seriously in my eyes.

But, the hype he started his career on shows the lack of talent and excitement in the division. Ali, Louis, Tyson, Holmes, Lewis - would beat all now including the Klitschkos. poztin
If his name was Steve Johnson nobody would give a shit about him. It's sad when it takes a gimmick name to get people excited.

Yeah, your right. His name and height played alot into the publicity.
gavpowell
To be fair, Fury(at least before he found God) did a fantastic line in patter - the build-up to the McDermott fight was brilliant. And of course, thwacking yourself in the face live on TV gets you noticed ;)

Meanwhile you congratulate Price on choosing Harrison. Are you sure you weren't bitten by Tyson Fury a a child? I was slightly confused by your Harrison comment so I went back and checked what I had written about that fight being made. That was when I saw your post in that thread. Quite frankly I dont think you could have got that more wrong if youd tried. I most certainly wasnt congratulating Price picking Harrison as an opponent (although even the joke of a fighter he has become is an almighty leap in class compared to what Fury is feeding on). My point was that Harrison has power and question marks are being asked about Prices chin. Is Harrison a good opponent, no not by any means, but this is heavyweight boxing. Just ask Sprott about Harrisons dig. It only takes one shot. Quite frankly you can take out the name Harrison and replace with any fighter who can punch. That was the point I was making. Despair all you want, but dont make up things to despair about. My criticism of Fury is more than fair. McDermott beat him in there first fight, a fat waste of space version of Chisora hurt him and nearly dropped him more than once, Firtha had him doing silly dances, Pajkic dropped him and nearly stopped him. I think you think I dislike Fury, I cant stress enough that frankly I couldnt care less about him either way, all I can say is what I see. When he shows me just 1/10 in the ring to back up the bullshit that comes pouring out of his mouth such as "best fighter in Britain" "doesnt need to win a Euro title cause hes already above that level" "Price isnt on his level", then maybe I might see what you do. Until then I will stick to commenting on what I have seen, not what people hope he will become. I will repeat what I wrote in the last past. Frankly I hope he does go on to be a world beater. Another British world champion would be great, especially at heavyweight, but hes not shown anything at all that shows hes capable of that yet. Nothing at all. Meathead
By the way Gav, I come in peace! I just read that back and its quite an angry post! The despair comment pissed me off a bit! mlol/
gavpowell
Fair enough - apologies for the misinterpretation, but I still think you rag on Fury way too much while Price should get nothing but scorn for fighting Audley(the other option was Skelton, which was hardly better). I do feel Fury ducked, or at least avoided, Price, but I also think Fury has shown more ambition than Price all the way along the line.
