WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler has landed in California ahead of his fight against undefeated American Andre Ward in the Super Six World Boxing Classic.

The Dane wasted no time since landing stateside and has already begun training in Sacramento, California as he finalises his preparation for the November 21 bout.

The Viking Warrior departed Copenhagen on Saturday morning after holding a brief press conference at the airport.

“We had a good flight and got here safely,” said Kessler, who is favourite to win the Super Six tournament.

“We have perfect conditions here in Sacramento. I am adjusting well to the time difference – the great weather certainly helps!”

Kessler faces up-and-coming Ward, who is somewhat of an unknown in the tournament, but will be in the deep-end fighting the Oakland native in his hometown with the WBA title on the line.

Kessler’s next fight will be against WBC champion Carl Froch and should he take care of Ward both titles will be at stake in a unification bout.

Nottingham fighter Froch won a split points decision against Andre Dirrell last month in a closely, but cautiously, fought battle. Leading the tournament at the moment is Germany’s Arthur Abraham, whose last round knockout of Jermain Taylor earned him an extra point. But Kessler can join King Arthur at the top if he can knock out Ward.
