WelshDevilRob
WBC to Build Marciano Monument http://insidesports.ph/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/marciano_rocky.jpg The World Boxing Council has unanimously approved the project to build a statute in honor of undefeated world heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano. The decision was made on the eve of the pre-eminent world boxing organization’s annual convention which opens in Jenju, South Korea on Monday. The WBC which is headed by Don Jose Sulaiman said the unveiling of the Marciano statue is projected to take place in May 2010 in Marciano’s hometown of Brockton, Massachusetts. Marciano of Italian descent is regarded as an immortal American champion with a record of 49 wins and no defeats with 46 victories coming by way of knockouts. The WBC said Marciano was “an idol not only in the United States but also all over the planet” who will be remembered forever. The WBC added that his statue “will be an act of full justice and recognition.” Marciano who was named “The Brockton Blockbuster” won the title with a 13th round knockout of Jersey Joe Walcott after being dropped for the first time in his career earlier in the fight on September 23, 1952. Marciano knocked out Walcott in a rematch some eight months later. He stopped the :Brown Bomber” and former heavyweight champion Joe Louis in a comeback attempt with an 8th round TKO on October 16, 1951 sending Louis through the ropes for the second time in the round and forcing the referee to call a halt. He also beat Ezzard Charles by a 15 round unanimous decision and in a rbematch knocked Charles out in the 8th while also scoring a 9th round KO over Archie Moore. Marciano was the prestigious Ring Magazine’s “Fighter of the Year” in 1952, 1954 and 1955. He died in 1969 as a passenger in a small private plane which crashed in bad weather crash while on the way to Des Moines, Iowa on the eve of his 46th birthday. http://insidesports.ph/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/marciano-walcott.jpg Source: www.insidesports.ph

Wheelchair
I reckon the statue will have one problem though. Marciano was harder than whatever they decide to make the statue out of!
