WelshDevilRob
MUNROE’S MATE GIVES HIM QUIGG LOWDOWN RENDALL MUNROE reckons getting matey is the key to shocking unbeaten star Scott Quigg on Saturday night. The one-time binman has turned to close pal Jason Booth to improve his chances of glory in the vacant WBA interim super-bantamweight showdown at Manchester Velodrome. It is the most crucial fight of the former European champion’s career. Defeat against Bury’s British champion will end Munroe’s hopes of a second world title tilt. Old stager Booth is coming to end of his boxing career after losing to Quigg in seven rounds last year, but has enough ring savvy to give his southpaw pal the lowdown on his rival. Munroe, 32, said: “I have sparred a few rounds with Jason. "He is a close friend - someone I talk to a lot. He’ll advise me on what Quigg is like although my trainer Jason Shinfield draws up the battle plans. “When you look at Jason's record, you can see he knows what it is all about when you climb into the ring.” Munroe feels that there has been a lack of respect shown to him by outsiders in the build-up to what is expected to be one of British boxing’s best fights of 2012. The talent stacked ‘Road To Glory’ card is Hatton Promotions biggest so far, and there will be even bigger shows later this year. There are three other big fights on the bill including Sheffield’s Ryan Rhodes challenging Sergey Rabchenko for the vacant European light-middleweight championship. Ryan’s fellow steel city fighter Richard Towers squares off against Frenchman Gregory Tony for the vacant EU heavyweight crown. In a special attraction unbeaten British middleweight champion Martin Murray meets French title holder Karim Achour. Meathead
This a great card. Still think Quigg has bitten off more than he can chew though. Neither he or Frampton are at Munroes level yet. It was the right thing to do in that it undercut Framptons steam, but if he gets completely outboxed hes gonna end up being cast to one side. With no TV outlet hes in a lot of trouble if he needs to rebuild.
