grapevine241
prime vs. prime, who would win? we could put it at super middle, or even light heavy whatever you prefer. i think toney is just all around too much skill for calzaghe to contend with. if joe was doing his usual volume punching he would be open for toney's counterpunching and underrated speed and power. so basically after the first 6 rounds or so it would be pretty much up to toney when he puts joe away. so toney by KO in the second half of the fight. but i could definitely be wrong and i want to hear what others think its kind of sad that this fight never happened... edit: 4got to click add option 4 draw, so if u think its a draw just say so
McBride
Apart from the fact that James was already fighting at Cruiser when Joe first won his title from Chris Eubank, and in his only attempt to make L/Heavy after that he failed. I really dont know. In as much as the heavier Tyson in his prime would stop Jones Jr, yeah I can see Toney stopping J Cal. But that is the only comparison. McBride
In that case of the 7 fights James had at S / Middle I think Joe beats the same 6 that Toney beat comfortably ( Jones Jr is probably a different thread altogether ) but James was killing himself to make the weight. So at S / M Joe wins fairly easily I think. My point is that I dont believe James's prime was at S / M with his weight problems.

pdtuning
the whole calzaghe vs ...... argument will continue for years, imagine he was in the super 6 tournament, now that would be huge!
astel1
Toney was much better fighter for sure, but he propbaly wouldn't win in UK
McBride
I agree with the handspeed comment. It was Jones Jr's handspeed that won his fight with JT, and Joe could quite easily have done similar.

chaconfan
Re: James Toney vs. Joe Calzaghe Whoever voted for Calzaghe by KO, really does not know about boxing at all. Toney never stopped even when washed up and fighting heavyweights, gets KO'd by slapper Joe? NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!
