Boxing trainer Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre has been charged with possession of a firearm after a gun was found in luggage at Manchester Airport.

McIntyre, 53, trained Chris Eubank Jr for the Briton's rematch with Liam Smith on Saturday.

He was arrested at the airport on Sunday as he prepared to board a flight back to the United States.

McIntyre was remanded in custody by magistrates on Monday and is due appear at Manchester Crown Court next month.

"Officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport," Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

"GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized.

"Subsequently, a 53-year-old man was arrested for possession of a firearm and was taken to custody for further questioning.

"Brian McIntyre from the United States of America was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate."

McIntyre was remanded into custody after attending Stockport Magistrates Court on Monday.

He is next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, 9 October, police said.

The incident took place at about 10:45 BST on Sunday as McIntyre was preparing to board a flight back to the US following 33-year-old Eubank's 10th-round TKO victory against Smith at Manchester Arena.

American McIntyre is widely regarded to be one of the best boxing coaches in the world and is responsible for guiding Terence Crawford to greatness, helping his compatriot become the first two-weight undisputed world champion in the four belt era when he beat Errol Spence Jr.

McIntyre is firmly in the running to be named 'Trainer of the Year' for 2023.

--- Been a week with no update on his status other than the presumption he's behind bars conversing daily with his law team.

Could it had been a set up? Certainly he's flown enough to understand the prolific security airports are responsible for.

Normally, stay silent as anything said could be used against them by the prosecution. But, he will be behind bars until the trial which is at a Crown court.

Speaking to IFL TV, Eubank admits he hasn’t spoken to ‘BoMac’ since the arrest and is still trying to get all the facts.

“It’s still something that I am still learning about and still trying to understand. I can’t really make too much comment right now because there is a lot of legal stuff going on.”

“But yeh nothing ever goes how you think it’s going to go when you’re looking at a Chris Eubank Jr fight, there are always things that happen that are mind-blowing and unexpected. We’ve just got to try and make sure we do everything we can to help him.”

--------------------

Not sure who would want to set him-up? Would have to be someone close, if it was.

He wont get any time, he has just made a genuine error here, he will carry the gun as a normal part of his travel, its an oversight that should and probably will be taken into consideration.

He's remanded in custody til the Crown Court case. He ain't going anywhere.

--- Near as I can tell he's still in custody. Front page news as soon as he's released, if he's released. May go straight to trial.

He has a date with the big boys - the Crown Court. Charlie will throw the book at him. I doubt the US embassy is battling for him.
