Unified IBF, WBC & WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev has a bone infection in his jaw, making it necessary to postpone his title defense against his WBC mandatory Callum Smith. The fight will be rescheduled for a later date. Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) and Callum (29-1, 21 KOs) had previously been scheduled to fight on August 19th at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada. However, Beterbiev, 38, needed jaw surgery, making it impossible to defend his titles on that date.

I watched an Eddie Hearn interview earlier, it looks like the fight won't happen til next year. Hearn is looking to get Callum Smith a fight, as he'll have been too inactive by the time the Beterbiev fight happens.

Oh man...yet another fight off for Callum Smith! Doesn't matter if it was postponed, he hasn't had a fight yet this year, that is not good for him.

This saves Callum a beating for at least another 6 months then, its a fight he cannot win in my opinion.

Can't imagine how Callum is gonna deal with a pent up Beterbiev, i'd likely bet under 6 rounds in this fight.

Artur Beterbiev-Callum Smith title bout rebooked for Jan. 13

Artur Beterbiev's unified light heavyweight championship defense vs. Callum Smith has been rescheduled for Jan. 13 in Quebec City, promoter Top Rank announced Tuesday.

Beterbiev, 38, was set to put his WBC, WBO and IBF 175-pound titles on the line vs. Smith on Aug. 19. However, the fighter from Russia underwent dental surgery that led to a jaw infection, postponing the matchup.

Now, Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) will return to his adopted hometown for an ESPN main event in the winter.

Can Beter recover his old form? No matter, will not be the same fight. Beter is very tight at the weight for a long time now that may be compromising his health.

I never noticed or considered this.

Have they been talking about possibly moving up?

--- His trainer John Scully says he is always in training and very disciplined, so therein is the problem the way I see it. 

He'd be a small cruiser if he moved up, but eventually starving to stay at a weight where you can barely make 175 is gonna comeback on him.

Like I mentioned, Pancho Villa died after dental surgery before a fight. It's a serious matter though I don't know all the details.

Even weight drained he beats Smith, this isnt even a close fight in my eyes, I hope im wrong I would love to see Callum do it, but he is levels behind!
