Wheelchair
Evander Holyfield has decided to relinquish the WBF heavyweight title in order to challenge Alexander Povetkin for the WBA “regular” World title in December. The legendary American informed this personally to WBF president Howard Goldberg. “I have been in talks with Evander Holyfield over the past couple of weeks. He has secured a December fight against Povetkin for one of the WBA titles and informed me that with much regret he would have to relinquish his WBF world title,” said Goldberg. “Evander and I have always had an open relationship and he expressed his great pride in having fought for and having held our WBF world heavyweight title and that he will always keep the WBF close to his heart. It has always been our philosophy at the WBF to allow our champions to grow, be it with us at the WBF or whether they are offered opportunities elsewhere. We have never, and will never, prevent our fighters from growing – that is not who we are.” http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/holyfield-gives-up-wbf-belt-96236
Wheelchair
Well the Klitschko's have no excuse not to go after this belt now. I mean, how can they consider themselves World Champions without this strap? Wlad and Vitali are a shameful disgrace to the sport!

londoner
Povetkin and his team should be ashamed for accepting a fight with Holyfield.

On a more serious note, Why couldn't they have a clash of the titans unification bout for both the WBA and the WBF?

Wheelchair
You know Razz, Povetkin is slower than a troupe of tortoises, I wouldn't be that surprised if Holyfield did win.
Kimmy
Povetkin got allot of hype coming up but since watching his recent fights I consider the assertion of him being a world class fighter a joke. Based on the clumsy Povetkin's form, i'd give Holyfield a shot at winning this.

Wheelchair
Botha-Grant for vacant WBF belt Howard Goldberg the president of the World Boxing Federation has announced that South Africa’s Francois Botha is scheduled to meet American Michael Grant for the vacant WBF heavyweight belt on November 19 at the Monte Casino near Johannesburg. The tournament will be co-promoted by ShowPony and the Southern Suns Group. The title became vacant when Evander Holyfield relinquished the WBF belt as he will be challenging Alexander Povetkin for the WBA regular heavyweight belt in December. The 39-year-old Grant 48-5-3; 29 was stopped by Lennox Lewis in two rounds in April 2000 when challenging for the world heavyweight title and Botha, 43, a former IBF champion received the same treatment from Lewis three months later when he was also stopped in two rounds. Botha who has been in with some of the best heavyweights around in his long career has a record of 48-5-3-1nc with 28 wins inside the distance. There will be another four WBF championship fights on the bill with Ilunga Makuba of the DRC against Pedro Otis from Brazil for the vacant WBF cruiserweight belt. Other fighters like Ali Funeka, Zolani Marali, Malcolm Klassen, Lubabalo Msutu and Rafael Guzman will also be involved in WBF title fights. http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/botha-grant-for-vacant-wbf-belt-96727

iamasadlittleboy
Botha wants his belt back! A unification would surely have been better for the WBF it'd get them some attention if nothing else. Povetkin has made one huge mistake so far and that was agreeing to be trained by Mr Atlas, who has taken Sacha from being an emerging heavyweight talent to another also ran. Hopefully the likes of Glazkov, Modugno, Gerber et al take note and avoid good old Teddy.
