I first recall Joe working as Ref when watching John Mugabi vs James "Hard Rock" Green on NBC (he had a mustache at the time, it's kind of funny to look back at it now). As bad as he seems now, there was a time during the Ninties when I considered him among the best, but everytime I see him now he's often confused or indecisive. I remember him DQ'ing Kirk Johnson when John Ruiz insisted on rolling on the Canvas and complaining of low blows, but the low point was Lorenzo-Soto, when he left Humberto Soto bleeding on the canvas and then went over and covered his microphone while talking to the Nevada Commissioner on what to do next. The other night he made the right call with the one pt deduction, but once again seemed confused when re-starting the fight..........I think it's time for Joe to hang up the bow-tie.

I recall a tragedy a few years ago when Joe's daughter was in a car accident and left paralyzed and I believe they sued the Tire Manufacturer. I will try to dig up the details again, but at the time I thought he was still one of the top Refs (shows how long ago it's been) and was very sad. It's kind of why I want to see him hang up the bowtie, while I can still remember a time when I was actually happy to hear that Joe was assigned to a fight.

The guys past it and needs to retire.

Agreed, Rob. I mean, this was not that hard a situation to handle correctly and he flubbed it, he's just had too many moments of indecision recently, and nothing is worse than a confused Ref. He needs to get out while some of us can still remember him at his best.

Without hesitation - I agree. The man has had his time in the sun (a while a go now admittedly), but needs to retire before someone gets seriously hurt. Boxing is obviously a dangerous game, the last thing fighters need is a dithering slow old Ref losing control of what should be routine situations.

Well said. This isn't one of the other sports where a mistake merely costs one team a goal or a victory, we are dealing with mens lives here. It'd be nice if Joe could exit and save some face, but if they have to just out-and-out suspend him to get him to "get the message" then so be it. Do whatever it takes, don't let the postscript on his career be a fatality.
