londoner
Fury wins with stoppage Giant British champ moves to 16-0 British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury maintained his unbeaten record with a fifth-round stoppage of American Nicolai Firtha at the King's Hall in Belfast. The 6ft 9in Fury captured the public's imagination with his win over Dereck Chisora to claim the domestic title in July and was keen to build on that momentum. He started with intent, too, ramming the jab and right hand home and bloodying Firtha's nose badly in the first. Experienced Firtha turned the tables in the third round by exposing Fury's vulnerable defence and hurting the Englishman, but the youngster rode it out and fired back. The 23-year-old regained the upper hand and landed some telling blows, forcing his opponent to take a count in the fourth round. Referee John Keane's stoppage looked untimely in the following round, but Firtha did not seem too upset to be spared further punishment. The win took Fury's record to 16 wins, 11 by way of knockout. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,12183_7186089,00.html
londoner
I thought Fury did really well and would have learnt a lot from that win. He controlled the fight for most parts but had a very shaky round 3 where it looked like Firtha might get a knockout victory. But Fury was clever to hold on and gain some time. It was back to work in round 4 and 5 though where he went to work on Firtha again. The stoppage might have been slightly early but the stoppage was inevitable. Fury was landing bomb after bomb from round 1. I think Fury would have learnt not to go all out for a KO early on. He was throwing the kitchen sink at Firtha in round 1. With his massive jab i think he can bide his team better. On top of the jab he has the big right hand which he throws with venom. He also has pretty decent body work for a boxer his size. All in all i thought it was a good display from Fury and actually think he has a big future ahead. He's only 23 years old so will be around long after the Klitschkos have gone. WelshDevilRob
Gotta seriously wonder about Fury's chin. Another Herbie hide.
The_budweiser
Yeah Rob his chin looks like a problem, but due to his height and size fighters may struggle to finish him off.
londoner
I don't think it's as bad as Herbie Hide's chin. Hide lost to a jab from Vitali Klitschko and used to go down if someone breathed too heavily on him. I think Fury's chin is potentially suspect but that's it. He's a heavyweight so there's always going to be that big punch risk.
Wheelchair
Fury's chin is a problem, but maybe not as bad as it could be. Remember he didn't hit the canvas as some would, and still got the win. He does need to concentrate on his defence more though, a world class operator would surely have beaten him by knockout last night. Hennessey is proving himself to be a huge steaming turd of a promoter though, you'd think he was managing Ali the was he was talking about Fury afterwards. mofo2
Tyson is too slow to fight at the very top end of the division, he has power, but no chin or skill, however its all in the timing, if he stays clear of the Klits over the next 18 months or so and Haye does stay retired, he could find himself virtually the only one left!! Joe Ko
Tyson Fury at the moment is a better version of Tye Fields. I think he really needs to stay away from David Price, Fury says Price has no chin but Price has serious power and better technique and I think could really give him problems. Skav
Fury showed good improvement in using his jab on Saturday but his defense is still way too leaky. I'm glad that he has said that he wants to take his time. I get confused sometimes because one day he says he's ready for the Klits and then he says he wants to take it slow, but I think he really knows he's not ready yet. I think another 9 months to a year will be good for him before challenging for a world title.
dixonsafc
Fury Vs Price early next year please! That's the domestic heavyweight bout i want to see.
iamasadlittleboy
Why are people other than Hennessey really talking about world title fights? Come on folks! Mick is saying it to hype his man, that's his job! The rest of us can be honest. Whilst the Klitschko's are a long, long way ahead of everyone their is some real talent in the division! Just look at some of the emerging prospects Pulev-Top amateur, has made a quick start to his career though seems to be, at best, a fringe contender Helenius-Limited fighter with true killer instinct and real power Boystov-Exciting, aggressive and hard hitting if small heavyweight Perez-Hard hitting, good combinations, fast hands Ortiz-Talented and very busy this year, aged 32 he'll have to make his march in the next 18 months Charr-C level fighter but a fighter who is slowly getting better Pianeta-Limited but determined, had a battle with skin cancer and now here to stay Price-Great jab, fast hands, fantastic straight right, good size Gerber-Young, talented, maybe on the small side and slowly taken up but a name worth noting Wawrzyk-A light hitter but young, talented and another one to keep an eye on Glazkov-Ultra talented, being pushed well, and another name to remember All this talk about Price being a champion is a joke, he's a good fighter who's progressing, but I'd certainly fancy some of those mentioned above to beat him.
