fightfan
How do you think a boxing physique should look? Pascal allways tires due to muscle mass Lacy tires due to massive muscle mass Is there any point ot muscle mass unless your a heavy weight fighter? as it slows your speed down? im not saying muscles aint good as there are fighters who have speed and power ie. Jones Jr. I'm meaning to big a bicep/ too big muscle mass compared to rest of that division.
iamasadlittleboy
Even heavyweights shouldn't be weightlifters...see Ali, Lewis, Louis, Klitschkos "Lean" is the best word to describe them IMO
Wheelchair
I'd go for this everytime...... mlol/ http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A1KRu5aTDRU/TV2b_biAuSI/AAAAAAAAADA/p-qWnQORNJM/s1600/Gabe-Brown-boxing-6342360.jpg
The_budweiser
Even heavyweights shouldn't be weightlifters...see Ali, Lewis, Louis, Klitschkos "Lean" is the best word to describe them IMO Depends on your build really , naturally skinny people with muscle mass it effects more but say your naturally huge shoulders and have a broad body wise alittle mass makes them think your too bulky, imagine muscle mass on say emile hesky compared to Theo Walcott ? on Theo they would say he looks good on Heskey many would say hes too big when he prob wouldnt be as hes already broad. Bruno was a monster but he was already big just added to it.

The_budweiser
your thinking at running not boxing, im just thinking of natural size with muscle mass added.
iamasadlittleboy
Punch speed, general movement. Heskey is just...to quote Ortiz "a tree". You need movement and stamina, even broad blokes (think De La Hoya) are better off beaing lean and trim than bulky
gavpowell
I don't think Lacy ever really gassed in his fights, he just lacked the technical ability to A) stop getting hit and B) adapt to what was happening in the ring.

iamasadlittleboy
Lacy was just sooo fucking slow when he threw punches you could see them across the atlantic
The_budweiser
Lacy was just sooo f***** slow when he threw punches you could see them across the atlantic Your right but was that due to his muscles being to big for his build/height? Yes, he was short and stubby. His height and reach were more of Middle/Jr Middle rather than Super Middle/Light Heavyweight, then you pack and extra 15lbs on a bloke on just his arms and upper body and he's going to be slow. You have the occasional "freak" who can be muscular and fast (Tyson) but most are slowed.

He was also voted best six pack in magazine's without those uneeded mountain abs and schwarzenegger arms what weight was he really?, I feel he was punching above his weight and how succesful could of been at lower divisions without the massive muscle mass. grapevine241
it seems the looser athletes perform better than the muscle men, but i think the style and skills of the fighter are more important than build (obviously)

He gassed mid rounds because Calzaghe was playing whack-a-mole with his head - I think everybody tires when someone is beating the shit out of them. But wasn't that to do with Lacys body Speed? to throw shots, to move away from shots? many thoguht Calzaghe was losing here, many play down the fact most USA press had Calzaghe beat. Alot of fighter rely on Power and fail rather than speed and power.

If that's all there was to it, then we'd be recruiting fighters from weightlifters. The Body Beatiful-types often get winded easier because the lactose needed to power the muscles is greater, and also some of boxings strongest punchers have been of slight build. A Lacy-like body by itself means little, but a LOT of people were taken in. For me, I picked him over Calzaghe because I thought his skill set was better as well, but I was wrong. londoner
If muscle was all that was needed to be successful then somebody like Larry Olubamiwo would be the top fighter in the World. http://www.livefight.com/images/pages/1287065872Lanre_Olubamiwo.jpg
