In April, Hernan "Tyson" Marquez and Luis Concepcion waged a brutal slugfest that is a clear fight of the year candidate. And now they are going to meet in a rematch.

 

Mexico's Marquez, who went to Concepcion's home turf in Panama City, Panama, and stopped him in the 11th round to win a flyweight world title, will make his second defense against his rival on Oct. 29 in Hermosillo, Mexico, promoter Zanfer Promotions announced.

 

The bout is slated to be televised in the United States as part of the "Top Rank Live" series (Fox Deportes).

 

The first Marquez-Concepcion fight was a stunning display of violence, a back-and-forth brawl in which both fighters were knocked down.

 

Concepcion (23-2, 18 KOs) was making the first defense of his 112-pound belt in the first meeting and was a big favorite, but it turned into a see-saw battle right away. They were both knocked down in the first round.

 

Marquez (31-2, 24 KOs) also knocked down Concepcion in the third round. They continued to rock each other throughout the fight until Marquez scored another knockdown in the 10th round. Concepcion had significant swelling and a cut around his left eye, which was virtually closed, when referee Luis Pabon called the fight off on advice of the ringside doctor just as the bell to begin the 11th round sounded.

 

"I will come very motivated to Hermosillo, Mexico, to the land of 'Tyson' Marquez (and) I will recover what is mine -- the world title belt," Concepcion said. "I have been working on all the errors that I committed in the first fight and this time things will be different. I am going to defeat him in his own house and then the title will return to Panama.

 

"It does not matter to me that he has thousands of fans who will be against me. That will be my motivation."

 

Marquez, 23, made his first defense on July 2 in Hermosillo, knocking out Edrin Dapudong in the third round.

 

Concepcion, 25, bounced back from the loss to score a first-round knockout of Manuel Vargas on Aug. 11 in Panama City.

This is FOTY so far IMO so really looking forward to the rematch. How great would it be if this fight lives up to the first and BOTH get nominated for FOTY.
