Tyson Fury: Klitschko would knock me out

I'm not a fan of Fury at all, but this is refreshing, fairplay to the lad!

Unbeaten British/Commonwealth champion Tyson Fury (15-0) is very honest with himself. While his promoter Mick Hennessey continues to hype up his chances, Fury admits that he's far from ready for either of the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir or Vitali. He wants to further groom his skills, perfect his combination punching and get his body into better shape. Fury returns to action on Saturday night in Belfast against Nicolai Firtha.

“I’m not ready. I’m a novice, Klitschko would knock me out,” said Fury to the Manchester Evening News. “I need to go back to basics and learn how to fight again. When I was 14 and 15 I used to fight with 10-punch combinations, now I can’t put two and three combinations together. I’m winning fights, but I can’t do what I did before. I was the fastest heavyweight since Muhammad Ali, but I’ve just gone slow, sluggish. I’m winning because I’m so big, I’ve got a heart to keep going and my chin is all right too. But I’m not winning because of my skill.”

Very refreshing and very honest - a rare thing with boxer's! Lovely to hear a boxer who ACTUALLY knows how good he is, and admits it. He knows his career is still young, that he is still learning and what his current limitations & standards are......... hope Audley Harrison, Tony Bellew, James DeGale, etc, etc, take note!!!

Good on him. His honesty with himself will only do him good. With him training with the Klitchkos I wonder if he will take on Emanuel Steward as a trainer sometime? I recall Steward saying that if Chisora beat Fury then he would be fighting a Klitchko, but if Fury won he would want to see him have a few more fights. The logic didn't seem to fit as they had fairly equal records. Could it be that Steward has an eye on Fury?

He's still very young and has plenty of time to improve and get better.

That's true, but he'll never reach world level.

You could well be right though reaching World Level isn't too difficult these days.

His main problem is the swapping and changing of trainers - he's been through a few now and doesn't seem to be able to settle which is obviously harming him if even he sees no improvement.

You've got to turn up in shape as well (see the James Toney Fitness Guide for details). Why can't more boxers show a bit of humility for once in interviews?

The most important thing for Fury now is that he works on what he has rightly analysed as his weaknesses, although I doubt most of us can comment on his ability as a 15 year old and in terms of his combination punching at that age. He needs to get his weight down and his roadwork / stamina work up (if roadwork is tricky due to his size then he could take a leaf out of Vitali's book and get into the swimming pool on a semi-regular basis as well). As others have said, sticking it out with the same trainer for years would probably help too.

I quite liked his win over Chisora, but he has a long way to go and needs to learn his trade.

I most admit i have never been a fan of Tyson Fury from day one,i just do not think he will ever reach World class as a boxer. In his statement he said he use to throw ten punch combinations are you kidding me.Most of Tysons punches are arm punches, and he would never land ten combination punches on a moving target or if the opponent stood still. One big flaw with Tyson Fury is that i have not seen much improvement skill wise,But the guy is still young and hopefully he can improve over the next couple of years. But i for one will not hold my breath, just cannot see him getting much better.

From fightnews....

6’9 heavyweight Tyson Fury is ready for the next step following his win over Dereck Chisora in July at Wembley Arena and now expects 6’6 Nicolai Firtha to be a real test of his credentials on Saturday in Belfast’s King’s Hall. “Firtha’s a big man with plenty of heart and skill so I know I have to be ready for a really hard fight but I want fights like this, I want to be tested because I want to go to the top as quickly as I can,” said Fury. “I don’t want to be fighting bums. This guy has been the distance with the WBA World heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin so if I do a number on him then it shows everybody again that I’m the real deal, that I’m the man to fear in the division.”

I love the boy's logic! mlol/
