Green awaiting Tarver decision

Former IBO cruiserweight world champion Danny “The Green Machine” Green has warned Antonio Tarver that he will not “hang around forever” as negotiations between Green Machine Boxing and Tarver’s camp for a rematch continue to drag on. Green is willing to go to the US for the rematch, however Tarver recently suggested that a rematch would likely happen in Green’s hometown of Perth.

“I want to go and fight in America, and he’s saying how big a deal and how big a name he is there, so I don’t see why he wouldn’t want to,” Green said. “Unless he’s not much of a big deal back home?” “Maybe he’s talking it up and he really isn’t much of a big deal? But he said it, he said Showtime wants to do it, he’s talking about having a hometown fight in Orlando, so it makes sense,” Green said.

“But I’m not going to wait around forever; he’s going to have to make a decision sooner or later.”

Promoter Gary Shaw was in Australia last week for Daniel Geale’s first title defense in Tasmania, said that the rematch clause stipulated a second fight between Green and Tarver must be held at the same Sydney venue and that Green’s push for a bout in the US was a smokescreen to disguise his reluctance to fight.

“Danny Green won’t fight Antonio Tarver because Danny Green doesn’t want to fight Antonio Tarver,” Shaw said. “It’s exactly why he’s started talking up a fight in the US, Danny Green couldn’t beat Antonio Tarver in Australia, so how is he going to beat him in America?”

But the Green Machine dismissed Shaw’s suggestions and said “It’s our discretion where the rematch takes place. I’m not sure of Gary Shaw’s involvement with Antonio Tarver because he wasn’t involved in the last fight. I’m not sure why he’s piped up? I guess everyone loves a winner, so I guess Gary’s back on board?”

“There is a whole myriad of people, who deal with Antonio Tarver and his business, and that’s why it’s always very confusing. It’s very difficult to deal with these people.” Green said.

But Green remains hopeful that a rematch with Tarver will be set up in due course and is hoping to make announcement in the next week or so.
