Prescott: 'I will spit on Khan and his father'

Junior welterweight contender Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19KOs) flipped his lid after reading a recent article on BoxingScene.com, where WBA/IBF champion Amir Khan gave the opinion that Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12KOs) would defeat the Colombian boxer on September 10 at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. Khan was knocked out by Prescott in 54-seconds in 2008, but the British boxer won a six round technical decision over McCloskey in April of this year.

"I really think Paul McCloskey is going to be careful in the fight. He's not going to make the mistakes that I made in the fight against Prescott. He's going to come out with his jab and think about it. I've got my money on Paul McCloskey in this fight," Khan told Sky Sports Ringside. "Since Prescott has beaten me, he's lost two or three fights. I know one fighter who beat him is Kevin Mitchell. I really think McCloskey is very tricky, very awkward, and he'll put his punches together quite well and beat Prescott."

Prescott responded, throwing verbal jabs at Khan, his father Shah, and the entire Team Khan Army.

"I bet you do have your money on McCloskey because you are a sissy. Anything that prevents you from fighting me again. You are a punk, your father is a punk and your whole team is full of punks. Especially your father, who babies you and that's the reason you have grown into a real fag. And you were right, the mistake you made was fighting me," Prescott said.

"Now if you are a man, after I beat McCloskey in his hometown and knock him dead like I did with you in your hometown - lets fight in December. You do all of this talking but you scared to fight. If you don't fight me, I will spit in you and your punk father's face."

Peterson is certainly a better fighter than Prescott is,but a rematch with Prescott is the more appealing fight I suppose.Khan has come a long way in those three years and it would be interesting to see how he now matches up against a guy that destroyed him in a single round.

If I was Amir Khan I would want to beat Prescott (whatever level he currently is) as he is the only blemish on his record, and lets face it - a REAL bad one. Being knocked out cold within 1 minute against a very average (at best) fighter is something that should be quite close to the top of his agenda for him to put right. Lennox avenged his only defeats to McCall & Rahman, making his record complete again (of sorts), and I don't understand why Amir don't have a burning ambition to want to do the same......

Amir and his "Team" seems to be obsessed / driven by high purses, pay-per-view figures, etc etc........ and not his legacy or pride. I like to see a fighter in the ring who wants to be there to prove he is the best (a good example = Roberto Duran) and not thinking of each fight as a business venture. It's for this reason (as talented as he obviously is) that I have real problems being at all interested in Khan's career.

Prescott is famous for one thing: Beating Khan in 54 seconds. SOUNDS very impressive. What has he accomplished since? Nothing. Khan being KO'd in 54 seconds SOUNDS awful. What has he accomplished since? He's beaten notoriously difficult Andriy Kotelnik, the hardest puncher at 140lbs Marcos Maidana and beat Paul McCloskey easily. Breidis Prescott struggled with McCloskey last night as he has in most of his fights since the Khan win.

Who remembers the guy who beat Bernard Hopkins on his debut? Who remembers the guy who beat Juan Marquez on his debut? Or the guy who beat Henry Armstrong on his debut? NOBODY. Khan will be remembered long after he retires whereas nobody will remember Breidis Prescott.

In fact, Prescott's biggest claim to fame will be in a few decades time when boxing quizzes online will include the question: "Who knocked out Amir Khan in 54 seconds in 2008?. Answer: Breidis Prescott".
