iamasadlittleboy
Just days before Tanzanian defector Omari Kimweri was set to fight Xiong Zhao Zhong for the WBC Minimumweight title the Chinese authorities have found "passport issues" with Kimweri. Kimweri, who made global news in 2006 when he defected to Australia during the Commonwealth games, has had a run of bad look and bad management through his career though is a man who has made a good impression on those around him and those who have seen him. "The Lion Boy" debuted in 2007 and after being stopped in his second fight his career seemed unlikely to go anywhere. The lead to him fighting Angky Angkotta in just his 4th bout. By then Angkotta was a 26 fight veteran and was expected to steam roll Kimweri. Instead however Kimweri gave him hell and lost by a very slim margin in a contest that showed fans just how talented he was. Unfortunate the good performance against Angkotta made life difficult and Kimweri struggled to get notable fights. In fact it took him almost 4 years to face an opponent of note, in the form of Panmongkol Ekarin, who was stopped in 2 rounds as Kimweri claimed his first international title. After building from 2-2 to 12-2 Kimweri would travel to Japan and be controversially denied a victory over Shin Ono in what was a contest for the OPBF Light Flyweight title. Unfortunately this set back in China seems to have just been yet another hurdle in the career of a man whose life is just a happy ending away from being a Hollywood film about struggles, set backs and eventually over-coming the odds. In regards to Zhong's Saturday night it now appears he'll be facing a Thai opponent who, if he can weigh inside the 105lb divisional limit, will be challenging for the WBC world title. JamieC
Re: Those damned Chinese! Wow, what a career! Who would you have picked @iamasadlittleboy? I thought Zhong was a paper champion, but his performance over Cuello really impressed me

Scott or Jamie- "After building from 2-2 to 12-2 Kimweri would travel to Japan and be controversially denied a victory over Shin Ono in what was a contest for the OPBF Light Flyweight title". Can either one of you guys elaborate on that for me? Was it just a rotten decision or was there more to it than that?
