After a relatively calm first two rounds, Kratingdaenggym came out blasting away in the 3rd round, knocking the confused looking Dunne down three times before the bout was finally stopped. Dunne, a reasonably good puncher when he’s fighting on all cylinders, made the cardinal mistake of trading punches with the harder hitting Kratingdaenggym and he paid for it dearly by losing his WBA title.

You could see early on that Kratingdaenggym was going to be a problem for Dunne because he was landing some powerful combinations in the first two rounds and Dunne looked uncomfortable with the big shots. Although bigger than Kratingdaenggym, Dunne didn’t have the same kind of quickness and power that Kratingdaenggym had going for him and found himself getting tagged regularly by the 2nd round.

Dunne seemed to take the wrong approach to the fight, perhaps thinking he could tough it out and outgun Kratingdaenggym at his own game but it was a bad strategy because he kept getting drilled over and over again by Kratingdaenggym without fail.

In fairness to Dunne, he might have felt that there was more pressure on him because he was fighting front of a large Irish crowd, who would have expected for Dunne to trade shots and give a good crowd pleasing performance. However, Dunne didn’t have the chin or the power to trade shots with a slugger like Kratingdaenggym and the eventual outcome was inevitable once Dunne started going toe-to-toe with Kratingdaenggym.

Fury Defeats Mrazek

In other action on the card, unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (9-0, 7 KO’s) defeated journeyman Tomas Mrazek (4-23-5, 3 KO’s) by a six-round decision. The final scores were 60-50. Fury, 21, looked hardly impressive, showing little power or improvement from his questionable 10 round decision over John McDermott two weeks ago.

Fury did, however, drop Mrazek in the 6th round, but he was unable to add to the knockdown and had to be content with just winning a six round decision. After the fight, Fury complained of injuring his right hand, which prevented him from loading up on his shots like he usually does.

Fury’s performances seemed to have regressed in the past several fights as he’s no longer looking as nearly powerful and impressive as he was in his first six fights.

With this victory, Fury will be looking at fighting a rematch against McDermott in December because the British Boxing Board of Control is forcing a rematch because an appeal was made to them by McDermott’s promoter who felt that the fight results should have been overturned.

The results won’t be overturned but their will be a rematch. Most boxing writers who witnessed the fight felt that McDermott should have been given the decision over fury. However, referee Terry O’Connor felt that Fury had done enough to get the win and scored it 80-72 for Fury.
