  • ***Sonny Conto Heavyweight Watch***

--- If pro debuts are any indication of greatness, here we go with the latest sensation.

Sonny was also championship baseball pitcher. Easy name for promo purpose, so 2019 just got a bit more interesting.

--- Finally an opponent in the usual setup for a debut, that is to say smallish height/soon to be 40/zero wins and several KO losses.

--- Levins was game as the saying goes, arising 5 x from the dead before the ring doc pulled his plug. Apparently Sonny has the strongest breeze in boxing today that was credited for the KDs.

In a sad note, a 22 yr old fringe contender Banty got stretched cold by a massive punch by a boxrec ranked journeyman. After long ministrations on the canvas, he was stretchered to the hospital with no updates as yet. Bad nite in Philly for sure, so I hope sonny is ready to make the appropriate adjustments in looking out for his health and finances.

That knockout of Carto was scary. His head bounced off the canvas and his body when completely stiff. The arena went dead silent, with everyone covering their mouths. I was a bit sad to see that happen. Purchased a Carto shirt afterwards because i felt so bad.

Sonny Conto wins his first pro fight without even landing a single clean punch!

                      Take THAT, Willie Pep !

Luckily, Top Rank says he'll be back in the ring in March, against an actually credible opponent.

                        Carto - wow.

Odd about Victor Ruiz: I knew nothing about him when watching the fight. (Not even his record, as I missed the intros) While Carto was clearly better schooled, I thought Ruiz looked very good. Nice Philly shell, southpaw, good balance, aggressive, decent feet. I'm amazed to now see his record.

Maybe that just illuminates how dangerous the Philly Shell stance is. VERY hard to pull it off safely. Makes you appreciate a prime Floyd even more.

--- Sonny on the undercard of Gvozdyk staying busy against the usual novice fed fodder.

However, an interesting back story that could of been tragic.

This card was a lot of fun to attend. Sonny is a nice kid, enjoys putting on a show for his fans in Philly. He said the best is yet to come.

Was able to chat a bit with trainer Marc Ramsay, who was there with Christian Mbilli. Said there was some talks about Eleider Alvarez fighting Jesse Hart this summer.
