WelshDevilRob
Olympic (Rio 2016) silver medallist Joy Joyce is planning on turning professional soon. The Heavyweight is almost 32-years-old, so will need to get a move on. He's targeting a debut fight against Dave Allen (11-3-1, 8 KOs). Is Allen, 25, a good choice or a bit too much? sould664
Re: Joy Joyce vs David Allen Unsure who Joy Joyce is but Allen is a horrible fighter, If Joyce is any good it should be easy pickings for him.
syrianpitbull
Re: Joy Joyce vs David Allen A debut against Dave Allen is way to much, especially the fact Allen has shared the ring with 2/3 top 15 HWs. I would be absolutely surprised if the fight was ever made, but you just quite never know in boxing!
JrGooNer
Re: Joy Joyce vs David Allen I actually really like Allen and he's only just started training properly and 'living the life' so to speak but it disappoints me that he's sort of becoming a gatekeeper to young prospects when he should really still be a young prospect himself

JrGooNer
Re: Joy Joyce vs David Allen Good debut, I like these sorts of things. There will be a lot of journeymen out of work though if we keep lining prospects up against each other from now on. The system was working, wasn't it? The system was working, wasn't it? The system? We see top Japanese prospects jump in with Oriental level guys from the off, Lomachenko, Usyk and Aloyan haven't needed journeyman to forward their careers. The system works for some, in some countries, but if you're good enough why waste time on opponents not fit to be sparring partners? Also why are we, British fans, so protective of journeymen? No other country has the same system. Top former amateurs do not need journeymen opponents to pad their records. We need to get out of that mentality IMO. Why is it always looked at as 'padding records' though? Lomachenko had like 300 amatuer fights so he went straight into world title chasing but young and inexperienced fighters need to learn things before they jump in with guys who have pure pedigree. An example of this is Ohara Davies vs Josh Taylor. They were both close in terms of amount of pro fights but Ohara definitely needed more learning and I feel that the fights against journeymen are where you learn things because you will struggle to pick tricks up when you are getting battered around the ring by top class fighters. Of course he will have learned maybe a little bit from that Taylor fight but would his career continue to improve if he only fights in 50/50 fights or worse from now on? Or would he improve more by getting his pedigree from fighting seasoned journeymen who he can get rounds against? I fell your issue should be more targetted at fighters turning pro too early rather than journeymen making a living from them when they do? iamasadlittleboy
Re: Joy Joyce vs David Allen Is Joe Joyce a novice? Is he young? Ohara's problem was he was writing cheques with his mouth. The Scarpa fight should have shown the level he was at and he should have been continuing at that sub European level for a bit. Not against journeyman, they wouldn't have taught him anything. How many journeymen has Taylor faced? Has he needed them? Inoue, Tanaka, Kyoguchi turned pro young, with less than 100 amateur fights each and haven't needed to face a string of journeymen. The lessons, for the top prospects (which Joyce is but Ohara wasn't) should be in the gym, not against limited opposition in there for a cheque and with survival being their forethought It's record padding because the journeyman hasn't come to win. As a sport we should never endorse one party coming to lose.
The_budweiser
Re: Joy Joyce vs David Allen I don't rate Dave Allen that much to be honest. I can't recall having watched Joy Joyce fight before but If he fights and beats Allen it's one way to make a name for yourself fast.
