Joseph Parker: WTF?

Man, I'm trying REALLY hard to be a Joseph Parker fan / supporter. He could well be one of the top 5 Heavyweights right now, , but when is this guy going to actually step up?

After years of defending Deontay Wilder, I don't think I can take much more of this.

-----------------------

Parker walked through his over-matched opponent today in 1 round, as expected. What could he possibly have learned?

And his next opponent? Are you ready for this?

In January, Parker will face the devastating, the fear-inducing, that paragon of pugilistic perfection, 25 (16) - 11 Jason Bergman !

OMG, I'm so excited for this bout !!!!!!

Re: Joseph Parker: WTF?

The thing is, Parker really ISN'T all that young. We've just gotten used to heavyweights not fighting for a title until their 30's, but that's because of all the political mechanizations and bullshit from the managers.

Parker at 23 years old is at his physical & aerobic prime RIGHT NOW. The only thing he lacks is experience, and he's sure not getting much of that fighting all these no-hopers.

Imagine if Cus Damato had held Mike Tyson back for a few more years, before facing Berbick? We might never have seen quite the same devastation machine that he became at 20 years old. - And Parker's style is a lot like Tyson's in many ways, relying on an extreme amount of lateral movement, and a high output of punches. As good as Parker appears to be, that's a style that doesn't really age well.

Re: Joseph Parker: WTF?

--- It ain't contestable, Parker is incredibly young for the new supersized heavy division, and if he won a title tomorrow he would be one of the youngest ever.

Gitta grip, Cus D'amato ain't his trainer and his ama background extremely limited. Was he offered a crack at Bronze Bambi or was it the considerably less accomplished Molina and Duhaupas? Would it be fair to match him against Wlad or now Fury without further development? Of course in fan world, all's fair in love and boxing except when their favored is upset, but the kid is coming along. He shares the storied January birth dates of Foreman, Frazier, and Ali, perhaps a divine precursor to his own championship qualities. Next year a big year for him where he'll be stepping up, but not against the fainting goat Wilder who's only looking for a big payday before his glass is shattered.

I fail to see what the "size" of the division has to do with age.

Anyway, Who's saying Parker should be fighting for a title tomorrow? That would be absurd. - But he's fighting absolute cans, one after another. He's not learning a thing. Plus, again, he has a style that best suits a young man.

And not for nothing, but:

Mike Tyson 20

Floyd Patterson 21

Muhammad Ali 22

George Foreman 23

Joe Louis 23

Leon Spinks 24

Michael Moorer 24

Jim Jeffries 24

Riddick Bowe 25

Max Baer 25

Parker will be 24 years old next month. He's on course to challenge for a title by the time he's 26 - 27 at best, if he can even get such an opportunity.

----------------------------

The only point I do agree with you on is his lake of a deep amateur background. That is definitely a consideration, but he still should be fighting actual opponents, not heavy bags with arms. Parker is in danger of becoming the next Tua, and it seems Kevin Barry has the same gameplan lined up for him: Make quick money winning a ton of local, easy fights, then cash out by throwing him, ill-prepared, into the ring with a few champs, until there's nothing left to sell.

Re: Joseph Parker: WTF?

The other factor with Parker, besides a lack of serious development, is a lack of an international fan-base, and this is perhaps even more important.

Parker is very, VERY good, and very dangerous. Anyone can see that, including all the current top HW's. By staying virtually unknown, yet racking up KO after KO, he's becoming an even bigger risk with zero reward. How are they going to get him bigger fights if this continues? He'll likely become the most avoided fighter in the sport.

This man need EXPOSURE.

Re: Joseph Parker: WTF?

He looks quite good so far, but so would anyone with a modicum of talent against the festival of crap that passes for his record. Audley looked pretty good against the Richel Hersisias of this world...

True dat.

He looks much better than young Audley, though.

Re: Joseph Parker: WTF?

Just you wait 'til Lennox Lewis comes out in support of him - if he can survive that blow, he could be the first man to make Pope and Heavyweight Champion of the World.
