Re: General Boxing (worth mentioning, not thread worthy)

Add everything here thats worth mentioning and not thread worthy.

--- Well, this is already the "general" boxing forum in a "world" sense that has seemingly incorporated Asian and Women's boxing.

Chris Algieri (19-0 8 KOs) takes on WBO champ Ruslan Provodnikov this Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Algeri seems to be a scholar as he is a boxer, holding a Bachelors of Science in Health Care Management then a Masters from local New York schools and understands he's in a classic tall stylist vs squat slugger match up with a gameplan to stick and move and fight his way off the ropes.

Could be a great fight or ugly or stupid depending on the actions of the ref and judges not to mention the hamhanded NY commish. I'm sure the style matchup will be pleasing if left unsullied by the officiating. Algieri is typical of modern boxing, he's not been very well tested, but he's not going against a great reigning champ but rather a newly crowned flavor of the month, a Siberian, the first ever to win a title me thinks.

It's a topic worthy of a thread, but you seem to be economizing and streamlining the site, so I'm OK with that in that one of the weaknesses of the big websites is sheer magnitude of worthlessly stupid threads being dumped one on top of the other in endless streams. Not many to care for Algieri vs Provo, but they would be rated in the 98-99th percentile of all boxers who ever boxed and deserve some attention.

Right, what about this bollocks that Andre Ward is ducking Kovalev? Source If he steps up to LHW for one fight and beats him [which IMHO he will easily] - then whats next for him at this weight? Duma getting her knickers in a twist about it trying to get the fight made. The Superman fight isn't an option because he's now with Haymon/Showtime so I think he's quite right to want to stay at SMW and get it on with the likes of Froch, Groves or the one thats been widely touted JCC Jr.

What say y'all.....................?

--- At last reference, Mama's boy won't step up to lightheavy where he competed in the Olympics in spite of the biggest fights awaiting him there.

Been a pro for 10 years and a mature 30 year old, so what's holding him back other than he also won't travel the two hour trip to Vegas for a big fight and otherwise stinks up Cali everytime he fights. He and his hometown refs gas the other fighters who have to wear handcuffs and leg irons in the ring. Way too light in the loafers for my taste, but perfect for modern day metro men and yummies for whom canned fights and canned lives go hand in hand.

--- No, I'm saying he's a canned light in the loafers fighter who won't actually fight as in the original definition at home and is scared to travel for bigger fights.

Bute always got slated for being a Montreal fighter, but he was making big money compared to Ward who would've made his biggest purse ever against Bute in Montreal. Mama said no, so he won't hardly fight period, even at home.

Re: General Boxing (worth mentioning, not thread worthy)

Porter vs Brook headed to Aug. 9

Despite Richard Schaefer’s resignation as Golden Boy Promotions CEO last week those at the company say it’s business as usual.

There are fights to arrange and cards to promote. President Oscar De La Hoya, fresh off his Sunday induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, is coming into the office regularly and working on events.

The company is promoting a June 21 Showtime tripleheader at the StubHub Center in Carson, California -- welterweight Robert Guerrero’s return against Yoshihiro Kamegai, Vasyl Lomachenko against Gary Russell Jr. for a vacant featherweight title and former welterweight titlist Devon Alexander against Jesus Soto Karass -- and also working on other events later in the summer.

One date in the works is tentatively an Aug. 9 Showtime card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

One of the fights ticketed for that show is welterweight titlist Shawn Porter’s mandatory defense against England’s Kell Brook. Golden Boy and Brook promoter Eddie Hearn reached an agreement and a purse bid scheduled for last week was canceled, according to the IBF and Golden Boy vice president and matchmaker Eric Gomez.

“We have a verbal agreement, but there are still some little issues,” Gomez told ESPN.com. “But we have enough of an agreement that (the IBF) was comfortable enough to call off the purse bid. The date we’re shooting for is Aug. 9 but that could change. We have to dot our I’s and cross our T’s but everything is moving in the right direction.”

Several other potential bouts have been mentioned as possibilities for the card. One of them is a fight between Daniel Jacobs of Brooklyn, New York and Jarrod Fletcher of Australia for a vacant secondary middleweight title (since Gennady Golovkin was made a “super champion” by an organization).

Junior welterweight champ Danny Garcia has also been mentioned for the card as has junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson. (No, they are not fighting each other.)

But Garcia could also wind up fighting in September instead, according to Gomez.

Golden Boy also has addressed the mandatory defense of lightweight titlist Omar Figueroa against Daniel Estrada. A purse bid had been scheduled for June 6 in Mexico City, but Gomez said the sides made a deal.

“We have a deal in place but no date just yet,” he said.

Roy Jones has been getting exposed, in more ways than one, by his side-piece.

Link NSW and only suitable for adults: Roy Jones Jr's Boxer Side Chick Puts Him On Blast & Leaks His Nudes - Baller Alert.com

Surprised @BoztheMadman hasn't commented - he was fascinated by Amir Khan's cock-shots.

Also, @Ton - see even legends have small twinkies, so don't be too hard on yourself.

Re: General Boxing (worth mentioning, not thread worthy)

2014-06-14 Ruslan Provodnikov [won 23 (KO 16) + lost 2 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 25] vs Chris Algieri [won 19 (KO 8) + lost 0 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 19] for the WBO JWW strap. Anyone interested in this?

Algieri is unbeaten BUT I think his 0 is gonna go - what say you..............?

2014-06-21 StubHub Center, Carson, California, USA. (Showtime)

http://www.cbsconsumerproducts.com/primetime/images/logos/showtime_championship_boxing.gif

Main Event: Robert Guerrero vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai, 12 rounds, welterweights;

Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Gary Russell Jr., 12 rounds, for vacant WBO featherweight title;

Devon Alexander vs. Jesus Soto Karass, 10 rounds, welterweights;

Chad Dawson vs. George Blades, 10 rounds, light heavyweights;

Vyacheslav Shabransky vs. TBA, 6 rounds, light heavyweights;

Dominic Breazeale vs. Devin Vargas, 10 rounds, heavyweights;

Sharif Bogere vs. Hector Velasquez, 8 rounds, lightweights;

Michael Hunter vs. Jerry Forrest, 8 rounds, heavyweights;

Jeffrey Fonanez vs. TBA, 6 rounds, lightweights;

Fabian Maidana vs. TBA, 4 rounds, welterweights;

Mark Anthony Hernandez vs. TBA, 4 rounds, junior middleweights

Now THAT'S an undercard.................

I actually wonder if Robert "Ghost" Guerrero could be in for a hard evening? Scott will know better, but this Kamegai fella (24(21)-1-1) can bang a bit with an 88.77% KO rate and has 21 out of 24 wins as KO's.

Devon Alexander who, at only 27, appears to have been around for donkeys years seems to be fairly evenly matched vs. Karass for me. Should be interesting, as both fighters are coming off losses. Karass, to hypeboy Thurman and Devon to hypeboy, Porter. Matthysse had Devon on his arse in their fight but he regrouped to get the split, he beat Maidana hands down and in very nearly the borefest of all time, beat Bailey. Then the up and comer Shawn Porter relieved him of his belt. Karass is very inconsistent, but has wins over Berto and Aydin to his credit.

The skillful (well I think so anyway) Gary Russell Jr finally gets a shot at a belt with a match-up vs. Lomo for the vacant WBO FW strap. Remember Lomo could have had this strap in only his 2nd pro fight due to Salido coming in overweight in March, but lost........

A full year has lapsed but Chad Dawson is finally back against 39 year old journeyman, George Blades [who got stopped By Pascal last September]. Shouldn't be anything but an easy comeback win for Chad here.........

Sharif Bogere (24(16)-1-0) is developing into an interesting fighter at LW. With just the one loss to Abril in a 12 rounder - which was a step up too soon anyway.

And Fabian Maidana (yes, younger brother) - makes his debut too. Hope this one is part of the ShoExtreme broadcast so we can get a look at him.

Boxrec links are included for anyone wishing to x-reference or research the fighters.
