Tim Coleman v Patrick Lopez

By Francisco Salazar at ringside

USBA junior welterweight champion Tim Coleman (18-1-1, 5 KOs) scored a spectacular third round KO over two-time Venezuelan Olympian Patrick Lopez (20-3, 12 KOs) on Friday night at Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California. Trained by Roger Mayweather, Coleman dropped Lopez with a big right hand in round two and sent him down face first with an uppercut in round three. Beautiful KO by Coleman. Time was 2:13.

In a terrific fight, unbeaten lightweight Archie Ray Marquez (10-0, 7 KOs) scored a scintillating third round TKO over Juan “Chago” Santiago (13-5-1, 8 KOs). Marquez was deducted a point for a low blow in round two, but he floored Santiago with a brutal barrage at the end of the same round. Marquez immediately jumped all over Santiago at the beginning of round three and the bout was waved off referee Ray Corona. Time was :11.

Featherweight Gabriel Tolmajyan won a tactical and methodical eight round unanimous decision over Yogli Herrera. Tolmajyan (10-1, 3 KO’s) was busier and landed the more effective punches throughout the bout. Herrera (22-13, 15 KO’s) landed an occassional right hand, but not enough to offset Tolmajyan’s offense. Tolmajyan scored a flash knockdown in the sixth round with a counter right hook to the chin, but Herrera was not visibly hurt. All judges scored the bout in favor of Tolmajyan, with scores of 80-71, 80-71, and 79-72.

Junior Middleweight Julian Williams (2-0, 2 KO’s) stopped Dean Peters in the first round of a scheduled four round bout. A left hook to the chin by Williams dropped Peters hard to the canvas. Peters (1-3) tried to get up on wobbly legs, but referee David Mendoza stopped the bout at 24 seconds.

Super Featherweight Amanda Crespin won a four round split decision over Crystal Hoy. Crespin (3-2-1) started well, but Hoy (4-3-3, 2 KO’s) was able to effectively counter Crespin through the middle rounds. Crespin was deducted a point in the second round because of her mouthpiece repeatedly falling out of her mouth. Crespin was able to mount a rally in the fourth round. Each fighter had the fight scored in her favor, 39-36, but the third judge scored the bout 38-37 in favor of Crespin.

Welterweight Michael Anderson dropped Angel Hernandez three times, the final time for good in the fourth round of a scheduled six round bout. Weathering an early barrage by Hernandez (14-8, 11 KO’s), Anderson began to control the action. Anderson (8-0-1, 6 KO’s) dropped Hernandez twice in the second round, both on vicious left hooks to the body. Anderson ended matters in the fourth with another left hook to the body, sending Hernandez to the canvas. Referee Ray Corona immediately waves the fight over at 51 seconds.

Lightweight Guy Robb won his professional debut, stopping Jose Pacheco in the first round of a scheduled four round bout. After buckling Pacheco’s legs with a hard right hand, Robb unleashed numerous punches on a defenseless Pacheco (2-14-6), who was backed up into a corner. Sensing Pacheco was not able to defend himself, referee David Mendoza stopped the bout at 2:08.

Paul McCloskey v Barry Morrison

Paul McCloskey (22-0-0, 12 KO’s) successfully defended his European title for the second time in front of a packed crowd at the Letterkenny Leisure Complex, Letterkenny, Ireland.

Mcloskey boxed beautifully using his cat like reflexes to stay well clear of danger, the 13-year-old southpaw frustrated his Scottish opponent by presents himself as a target before slipping and sliding in a pure exhibition of the sweet science.

His opponent Barry Morrison, from Motherwell, Scotland was the former British light welterweight champion. Morrison who goes by the ring allies “The Bizness” had lost four of his last ten outings.

Tonight Morrison could not unravel the riddle that was Paul McCloskey, fighting from the southpaw stance with a stiff busy jab McCloskey has the superior movement and reflexes.

Morrison remained in the fight due to his high guard, however in the fifth the Irishman found an opening landing on the temple Morrison went to one knee after a delayed reaction. When the fight resumed the brave, Scott showed his fighting heart by rallying to the bell that signalled the end of the fifth.

A loose and relaxed McCloskey continued to box with fluidity, settled into a rhythm the Irishman was looking unbeatable, at least in this fight he was.

In the seventh round, the champion had Morrison against the ropes where he doubled up the jab, setting up the right hand that followed sending Morrison to the canvas for the second time, referee Mark Green had seen enough and stopped the fight.

During his post fight interview ringside, McCloskey said after conquering Europe and defending his light welterweight title twice the next step is a world title, he expressed his desire to fight Amir Khan, and also mentioned the names Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander.

Stephen Foster Jr v Leva Kirakosyan

Stephen Foster Jr crushed Leva Kirakosyan at the Reebok Stadium to become European super-featherweight champion.

The Salford fighter cut his opponent with a left hook in the first round and was always in control as he inflicted a third-round knock-out on the Armenian.

Kirakosyan had become increasingly ragged in the face of Foster's more composed attack and left himself wide open to a huge double blow from the left hand of the home favourite.

He scrambled to his feet with the count at seven but referee Adrio Zannoni adjudged he was in no position to continue.

"After all the training and missing my family and kids, I'm glad it's paid off," Foster told Sky Sports.

"We had a gameplan, but we didn't think he was going to go right early. He was trying to bowl me over, I could see openings and threw the left hook - and goodnight. I can't believe it."
