Christina Hammer Back At Middleweight To Defend WBF World Title

In her last outing, this past May, Christina Hammer, 14-0 (7), became a two-weight World Boxing Federation World Champion when she moved up to Super Middleweight to dethrone then undefeated titlist Zita Zatyko in Mannheim. Having vacated that title she is now back to defend her WBF World Middleweight crown on July 13. At the Energie Verbund-Arena in Dresden, Germany, 22-year-old Hammer will take on Mikaela Lauren from Sweden, a very experienced opponent who brings an impressive 19-2 (7) professional record and several championships on her resume. Turning pro in 2009, Lauren has only suffered defeat at the hands of Cecilia Braekhus, in a World title fight, and Spain’s long-time contender Loli Munoz. Riding a five-fight winning-streak, the skilled Scandinavian could easily prove to be Hammer´s toughest challenge to date. With that in mind, the Dortmund-fighter has left no stone unturned in her preparations, setting up training camp in the Austrian Alps for high-altitude training and to be able to focus completely on the task ahead of her: “I feel very good here in the mountains.
