Last Saturday, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr knocked out Evert Bravo in the first round in San Juan de los Lagos with a left to the body. The fight was set in the light-heavyweight division at 175lb. The son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr had been out of the ring for over two years since his lopsided points defeat to Saul Alvarez in May, 2017.

If his name was Adam Jones (or the Spanish equivalent), no one would even know who he is. He isn't famed because of his achievements, his commitment isn't what it needs to be and he was non-competitive against a fellow Mexican and got schooled by an Martinez. Matthew Macklin gave Martinez more trouble. Add to that the fact that 175lb is packed with beasts and I'm saying no, Jr isn't going to be reigning supreme at any point between now and retirement.

--- Yes, we all know Jr been more celebrity son of the legend than fighter, but I'd remind naysayers that one punch took Martinez out in sections that he was never to completely make whole, thus making this p4per more malleable for Mcklin and Cotto.

Had Jr landed that punch 30sec earlier, he'd have easily finished off Martinez, shades of Meldrick Taylor, so buried deep within that genetic structure is a hint of Seniors greatness. He was too busy getting mobbed by the señoritas. He could put together some wins and challenge for a title and maybe a stripped one against a pretender to end up with a petty good career for a celebrity if he don't go off the rails again.

Jr. only landed clean on Maravilla because Sergio's bad knee went on him, just before the punch.

Jr. was completely out-classed, shut down, and humiliated in that fight.

I bet his dad didn't talk to him again for a year.
