IBHOF Induction Starts Today!

Re: IBHOF Induction Starts Today!

--- interesting that most all are Americans and the fighters save Curry were journeymen, and then mostly American suits.

Meanwhile a tiny, listed generously at 5-0, Iron Boy Calderon goes missing yet again. The very definition of a P4per given had there been a division below minimumwt, that's were he woulda started. Whooped Cotto in the AMA! Record here:

Re: IBHOF Induction Starts Today!

--- Annual IBHOF fight card has played out.

On the headline bout, The Hebrew Hammer, Cletus Seldin pounded up Zab Judah all night until the ref stopped it, or so Fightnews sez.

We await reps appraisal, but back when boxing expert Slapsy Maxie told us Zabby was the best welter ever, so does that crown now get passed to The Hebrew Hammer?

Re: IBHOF Induction Starts Today!

So, i finally was able to attend the International Boxing Hall of Fame, although i only was there for 1 of the 4 days. I left on Thursday night and made the 4.5 hour trip to Canastota, New York. Arrived around 3am, checked into my hotel and knocked out asleep. Woke up 4 hours later and planned to meet up with a buddy of mine at the hotel across the street for the Hall of Fame grounds.

Now i was prepared to get some gloves and programs signed, but nothing compared to these veteran attendees or memorabilia dealers. All the stuff i brought to get signed were for myself or for someone i know. These 'pros' had multiples of everything and security would get upset with them, always making lectures to us about how large bags aren't allowed, and only 1 item each, etc.

I had 20 gloves in my car and several programs and Ring Magazines with me.

1st fighter i meet on my trip is Junior Poison Jones. I say hello to him, and then he remembers me from the Wilder fight several weeks back. We chat for a little bit, and i take a pic with him. Didn't get a glove signed, because i had already gotten him the first time we met.

The next fighter i met was Earnie Shavers. This guy was intimidating. Joked around with him for a bit, asked if he said sorry to Ali's kinfolk? haha. Got an immaculate signature on a glove by Earnie and took a pic with him.

The 1st 2019 inductee i met was Don Elbaum. Nice guy, loves to share stories about Ray Robinson, and Roberto Duran.

Afterwards i got to talk to and meet Micky Ward and his brother Dicky Ecklund. Dicky likes to take pics with his fist to your chin hahaha. I didn't brother Micky much because a lot of people were trying to get to him. Got Micky on a glove.

Michael Moorer walked over and hung out for a little bit. I was able to tell him a story about how i was suppose to be at the Foreman fight, but instead my mother went in my place, with my father. Got him on a glove.

David Diamante came over to us, and we chatted for about 15 minutes about boxing, the Brooklyn Nets, Harold, HBO, cigars, etc.

So that was at the hotel across the street. I decided to make my way to the grounds.

Sugar Ray Seales standing right in front, telling people about his fights with Marvin Hagler. Took a pic with him.

As i was walking back to the hotel where my car was located i run into Buddy McGirt. Took a pic with him and got a glove signed.

Continue walking and i see referee Kenny Bayless.

At this point the heat was kicking my ass, so i went into the Dunkin Donuts to get an ice coffee and BOOOM!!! Marvin Johnson just hanging out in there. He was telling me that he hasn't attend a boxing card in quite a few years. You can clearly see the affects of the way he fought. He was slow, slurring a bit, but always nice to me and my buddy. And he signed the glove pretty good for an older fighter.

Since i can't bring my backpack to the hotel, i keep walking back to my car to swap out for fresh gloves.

Got back to the grounds and i see Chop Chop Corley. Talk to him for a little bit, and take a pic with him. His kids are hilarious.

Under one of the tents David Benavidez is signing stuff, so i wait on the line. At thisthe point in the day that i discovered the sun was melting my face and neck. Got a glove signed, took a pic with David. He said he's pushing Haymon to get him the Dirrell fight in September.

Again i walk back to the hotel parking lot and i see Tony DeMarco. This was kind of special. He stayed out for quite some time, making sure to sign everything for everyone. Got him on a glove, and took a pic. Another amazing signature.

Walk back to the grounds to watch David Benavidez doing an open workout / sparring. Pulled out my long lens, and got some great shots.

During the workout i run into boxing writer Lee Groves. Been a big fan of his stuff, especially his Tales from the Vault book where he lists 100 closet classics. I explain to him how i've tracked down 99 of the 100 fights he had listed in the book. He tells me to email him the fight i need, and he'll send it to me. Umm i've been looking for 5+ years, and he's just gonna give it to me. lol. We talk for a good long while about other closet classic fights i've watched recently. Said to contact him for whenever i am looking for a particular fight.

When i walk away, i turn around and i see Jorge Arce. Now i'm not sure how i triggered this conversation, but i mentioned the Hussein Hussein fight and the cut on the bridge of his nose. He explains to me about how that fight he forced himself to continue, refused to quit. Jorge isn't fluent in English and i don't speak Spanish, so there some parts i didn't understand, but he started telling us a story about his father getting into a big fire accident, burning 80% of his body, lying in the hospital and the doctor telling him to go say goodbye, because he's not gonna make it. Jorge starts tearing up telling this story. Got confused a bit when he then talked about struggling for food and money as a kid. The story circles back to his father, and he miraculously survives, and vows to never quit ever. Got him on a glove and took a pic.

To be continued....

Re: IBHOF Induction Starts Today!

--- Reps, did you get to see the casting?

Always see the fighters walking around with their big casting cups and the tiny hole in the middle. I can't figure out the physics of that.

Death masks used to be popular, but that's easy to figure. Cover the dead face with plaster, remove it after hardening and cast the mask using the impressions of the first cast. Simples.
