LondonRingRules
--- this a Goldenboy promo on the DAZN platform, a new era. Anyway, contender Tureno Johnson had his hands full with the boxrec ranked 292 supermiddle Fernando Castaneda in a phone booth classic. Johnson is surprisingly quite erudite and gracious promised to do better next time. Wow, if Castenada can keep his new and improved form, he could make some money as he's a crowd pleaser. Judges saw a draw and truth was both had their moments, but Castaneda had the best moments. Hope GB gives both a bonus.
LondonRingRules
Re: ***SPOILER- Machado vs Cancio Card --- Diaz jr wins a decision over Huerte who was game, but clearly the lesser. a bit boring in that neither can punch, so there was zero drama. LondonRingRules
Re: ***SPOILER- Machado vs Cancio Card --- Rey Vargas defended his superbanty title with a vastly wide decision over Franklin Manzazilla. That hardly tells the story of Vargas getting beat to hell, cut up and dropped several x though only one was a KD. Left swarmed and out of position all night. Manz deducted 2 Pts for butts, but after early it looked like Vargas was timing him, Manz went full fellow countryman Valero madman that mostly left Vargas helpless and his trainer Berenstain was equally helpless in stemming the cuts. Terribly ugly fight from a technical POV, hence the scores. The judges and ref blamed Manz for everything.
LondonRingRules
Re: ***SPOILER- Machado vs Cancio Card --- very strange night in Carson, California. Machado went out like a lamb on 3 KDs in the 4th rd from innocuous body shots. Does he have a burst appendix? And Freddie Roach was his trainer. Just a weird card all around. Bodes ill for this year. The latest Cinderella Man story from all accounts on Twitter? Maybe Machedo was a bit overhyped before hand, but he was a big big favourite. I haven't seem the fight so hard to tell from the hearsay. --- Rey Vargas defended his superbanty title with a vastly wide decision over Franklin Manzazilla. The scorecards make it look like a routine title defence. Sounds from your account it was the powers that be vs the away fighter, who was always onto a hiding to nothing, no matter how well he did. Did Vargas struggle to this victory? He's got one of the best unbeaten records in the sport, but seemingly not much appeal??
LondonRingRules
Re: ***SPOILER- Machado vs Cancio Card --- I'd say both Vargas and Machado results could be as controversial in that both heavy+ favs. Machado looked good early, but Cancio clearly the bigger, stronger fighter kept him on his back foot with big shots up and down. At 5-10+, could be Machado needs to move up to LW. Vargas even more drained at 5-10, listed as 5-7 as superbanty against a raging awkward fighter who swarmed him with less technique than Cancio, a terribly ugly fight. .Fist time I've seen either fight as I generally only look at a few records the smaller gighters.
