Andrzej Gmitruk, legend of Polish boxing and the best trainer in recent years died yesterday, reportedly in a house fire. It's an unbelievable shock for boxing community in Poland. He was a trainer of Tomasz Adamek in all his title fights and worked with Andrzej Gołota when he captured the olympic bronze medal in Seoul in 1988. He was in the corner of Maciej Sulecki in the fight against Daniel Jacobs and trained Mateusz Masternak for his WBSS bout with Dorticos. Just 10 days ago he was seen in the corner of Artur Szpilka in the clash against Mariusz Wach. He was preparing Izu Ugonoh for his next fight with Ali Eren Demirezen. Gmitruk was also a boxing promoter and commentator for Polsat and TVP. He's just worked as an expert during Polish broadcast of Jarell Miller v Bogdan Dinu.

Unbelievable shock and loss :( He was involved in so many things recently that it's hard to imagine boxing in Poland without him.

Re: Shocking death of successful boxing coach

It was very shocking new for every boxing fan. He was an excellent coach & man on & off the field. The death of the coach was announced on Twitter by a resident of a neighbouring village and the Voluntary Fire Department of the nearby town of Długa Kościelna.
