The Dublin-born former boxer became a highly regarded trainer at his Sheffield-based Wincobank gym, and guided British fighters Johnny Nelson and Naseem Hamed to world titles. "On this one occasion I am using social media to inform people a good, good man has left this earth today," Nelson wrote on Instagram on Friday. Dean Francis: Former European champion boxer dies aged 44 Former European super-middleweight champion Dean Francis has died at the age of 44 - with some of the biggest names in British boxing paying tribute. Bristol-based Francis was diagnosed with terminal cancer in January 2017. Francis, who was given three to six months to live, died on Friday. Won titles at English, British, Commonwealth & European levels. Has had a well documented battle with cancer. Was fortunate enough to cover his comeback, from ringside.
